You can go in an Amarok, but you won't be able to reverse out of there, so it's a one-way round trip..

A secondhand Pajero would definitively be my recommendation to sort out this problem!

I’m definitely a cheap camper. If I drove a vehicle capable of giving me more than 4.8km/l I’d also probably try chalets etc. Fuel is the most expensive component of going away for us, even for 5 days camping.

I don’t mind, I like my car more than staying in a chalet and can go more places than with vehicles in my budget that gives sensible consumption.

I must add that we’ve upgraded with a drawer system and 52 liter fridge.

When we go away, roughing it brings a sense of relaxation, at least to us. Out of the busy everyday life. Boiling water on coils and then putting it in a Stanley flask so the kids can have warm tea, and us coffee, for breakfast. That’s camping for me.

I grew up camping in an equipped caravan at electrified sites. For some reason I prefer struggling.

    Life is too short......................

    Camp:

A place with temporary accommodation of huts, tents, or other structures typically used by soldiers, refugees and travelling people.

So, I guess if one makes use of temporary accommodation while travelling, one is camping. Now, I wonder if the Palace at Sun City falls into this definition under; ''other structure''

Whether you are in a bedroll on the ground or a caravan with satellite tv and using a place as temporary accommodation while travelling, then I guess you are camping.

On a personal note, camping for me is making use of a temporary structure in a place for temporary accommodation, the place being somewhere where I am and you arent

This apparently "friendly" debate made me think of my former boss in Zimbabwe. He was a black Zimbabwean. SWAMBO and I spent many of our holiday periods either camping under canvas or in an old Gypsey caravan. My boss told me that he really struggled to understand white people. He explained that he spent his entire childhood living in a mud hut in Gutu and aspired to live in a smart house in the northern suburbs of Harare and had realized his boyhood dream. He asked why white people living in their smart homes, in the northern suburbs, would want to holiday in the bush, living in a tent, according to him this made no sense whatsoever .

Camping is when Rich people spend a lot of money to go and live like poor people for a few days. Overlanding, now that's something different! that's exploring, seeing new things and getting away...actually away! And staying in a tent or van while doing it is just the best way to do it... because you can "stay" where you want to

My wife and I have done all the Rough Stuff with Spade and Bog roll now at 70 we still camp off grid and put up all the tents and bang in Pegs and set up Solar Panels etc but we try and seek out at least a flush loo if possible and have a few comforts like a better bed than we have even at home >> We always go to a place that we can commune with Nature>> We had a miniscle tree frog that got into our switched off Parafin lamp , We saw a Little Sparrow Hawk kill a Fork Tailed Drongo and the 2nd last night we had a leopard kill late at night on a sleeping Baboon just across the stream we were camping at and I caught a baboon watching me go to the loo up the hill >> What we consider as NOT camping is like that Pella trip report which we have just read the Forum report on >> looked great the scenary but for a Max no of vehicles its no more than 2 in a convoy even then we try and arrange to arrive a day earlier than the other vehicle if there is to be another even.
