If you going Zambezi then invest in some tiger specific tackle as the 10pounder plus fish are more common and will make you pay on sub standard tackle thats not suited to the style of fishing you will do, be it spinning or trolling.

For Jozini go lighter, more bites and more fun

So 12lb line should be fine for Jozini? I have not found a single reference to fishing in Jozini that mentions anything less than 15 to 23 lb line. That is why I asked uncle Rechardt what he uses.

New, have you done the Zambezi manliness test yet?

I fish Jozini regularly. Used to use the heavier Zambesi gear long ago. Last couple of years only use my bass gear with some plastic coated steel on the end. Much more fun, and many more hookups.

Does it have anything to do with swimming around the boat in crock and hippo infested waters?

Dankie Oom Koos. Will consider lighter line then, maybe with a bit of a leader. (Excluding the compulsory nylon covered steel trace off course. I have seen what even the little tigers do to that steel trace. )

Tape a piece of foil around your member and swim from shore to shore in tiger fish infested waters.

Ek is so desperaat om 'n tier te vang ek mag dalk die "effe" skade aan my jaap vat vir dit. Ek hoop darem die tiervis gaan okey wees na die tyd.

12lbs should be fine, but definitely braid not mono to get a better hook set. That is typically what I fish on my bass set ups. You could tie a 3m casting leader to the front of your 12lbs mainline of say 30lbs braid, just to buy some insurance should the fish get into structure. But fishing the typical weedbed margins it's not necessary.

What is nice about the lighter main line is you can throw smaller spinners and also unweighted plastics like jerk shads and flukes further.

Of course if you do hook a rare 4kg plus fish it will be a challenge to land if you around structure, but definitely still possible.

Jozini is tiger light, so fish light for more fun

I tried braid. Not a fan. Planning on Mono only. Some nice maxima ultragreen.

Berkley Big Game is also an excellent mono and very abrasion resistant.

I also considered that as the first choice. Maybe in future will get some. The slight convincing factor was Maxima boasting that the ultragreen is bordering on fluorocarbon type of "invisibility" under water. Sounds to good to be true, but will give it a run.
