In Nam our 50ppm diesel is just shy of the R15 mark and our unleaded just above it.

The price also increases due to transport from the coast.

There are apps you can get ( I can't remember the name now sorry) which will help direct you, as the diesel price is at the discretion of the owner of each fuel station only our petrol is regulated.

In the last 10 years or so the fuel taxes have increased by 165%

    https://www.businessinsider.co.za/ho...,16%20to%20R16.

Oil is 80 dollars a barrel right now and will keep going up because of global energy shortages combined with the start of a northern hemisphere winter ( which is predicted to be a cold one)
also, due to growing green energy mandates there will be little to no new investment in fossil fuels which will keep pushing prices up.

i think it was around 2008 that oil reached $ 140 then price of petrol reached around R 15 liter and rand dollar was 11 ish

if oil hit $120 we will look at R 25 liter

I guest those who now WFH will save ether way

Its the tax that is pushing the price in ZA.

In the current financial year, the following taxes apply per litre of 95 unleaded petrol:

    • General Fuel Levy – R3.93
    • Road Accident Fund Levy – R2.18
    • Customs and excise tax – R0.04
    • Demand-side management levy – R0.10
    • Other levies – R0.01

This means that around R6.26 of every litre of petrol you purchase is tax.

    https://mybroadband.co.za/news/motoring/413776-how-much-tax-you-pay-when-you-fill-your-car-with-petrol.html#:~:text=This%20means%20that%20around%2 0R6.26%20of%20every%20litre,coffers%20but%20are%20 paid%20to%20the%20fuel%20companies.
