Default interested in D4 V8 in JHB, some advise

    HI
    Riding my tdv6 D3, 2007, for 8 years now, perhaps considering a D4 V8 earlier model, or D4 TDV 6 2013 model.
There is a 2010 D4 V8 in JHB that I am considering, however I'm based in CPT.
I am going to JHB next week to view it, any obvious checks on the V8, especially when it comes to engine?

Alternatively, any specialist that can view the car for me, happy to pay for the inspection, especially if the engine condition can be verified.
I have done the desktop checks on that vehicle, only concern is oil was replaced in 2017, and since then 24 000km, obvious due for service now.
Even though LR recommend 24k service, on my D3 I replace oils etc every 12k km.
Assume on the petrol not such a big problem if serviced every 24k, however, the 3 year interval is what worry me.

    Thanks

are you buying from the owner or dealer... or more specifically "we buy cars?"

take the Vin and ask LR for the warrantee repair history on the vehicle, that would be a good start before you travel to JHB ..

In Jhb, ask one of the indy's close to the area to go have a look for you. Landyworx, Albert (don't know his shop name, etc.). Might charge a 1 hour labour cost for time, but could be well worth it.

Also, post some pics of the landy here, it might be someone we know and can give proper advice.

At least post the mileage, specs, etc.

2010 V8 you need to watch out for:

Timing Chain Tensioner - there is a TSB for it
    Water pump change
Water pipe at the back of the engine (can't remember it's name)
Compressor and air suspension test (i'm sure you know this.). Also, try find out if Hitachi or AMK compressor and whether changed or not before.
Fuel usage. The 276 horses get very hungry when they need to move quickly or fast. Better economy than your D3, IF, you can resist the tempation of the loud pedal and said barrage of angry horses waiting to unleash their fury.

    I miss mine.... sometimes.

I would stay away from WBC when buying. My opinion.

Rather go for the immaculate D3 that's been well looked after or find another D4 V8.

    @kaspaas

Why a Disco V8? If you don't need the 7 seats/packing space, then rather go for an L320 (or even an L494) SCV8 - they are going for a song these days, have better performance than the NA, and also better fuel consumption.

    Fully agree.
If you don't need 7 seats, it's pointless buying a 7-seater. Get yourself the supercharged RRS or RR.

Ended up buying a 2013 xs, diesel. Also with the 8 speed box. No more suspension chimes. Quite happy with it, soaked up the dirt roads in Karoo this week end. Name: IMG_20210416_175256.jpeg
