Well Tony as you dont intend to use it much anymore it becomes a liability rather than an asset , insurance , storage, servicing, etc so the simple question is can you afford it. Having said that these vehicles are becoming scarce and the price will go up but when to sell ? As you are getting on in the years I would sell or perhaps one of your kids interested? Most people move to smaller places when they get old and this is a big vehicle and one does not want to park it in in our sun as it will rot away

Thanks, it has been garaged since I bought it (I built a garage with an extra high entrance to accommodate the RTT). And no, I don't need to sell it, but sometimes practicality has to rule over sentiment. My son would love to take it over, but he is going to be working on contract in London for a few years, so that's not an option. And my daughter would kill to own it, but as she's still going to be a student for a couple more years, she couldn't even afford half a tank of petrol!
We actually have parking and garaging for six or seven cars, and are not thinking of moving any time soon, so space is not a problem.

as I say, one of my biggest regrets was selling my v8, more for the sentimentality than it actually being a good car.

My touring 1995 V8 is the one I miss the most. 150kms of African memories. I'd really try to keep it and pension it next to the house.

You have time, try and sell to UK or Aus.

Thanks everyone, FYI, I have had six or seven PMs from members interested in buying it and if I decide to sell, I will contact those members, and advertise it here in the classifieds. Tough decision!

    Hi Tony,

We recently sold our 1990 110 V8. It had 207,000 on the clock but had less accessories than yours. It also wasn't in as clean a condition as yours.

As soon as I advertised it, I got lots of offers quickly from buyers looking to export. I decided to try export myself but couldn't find a buyer, despite my best efforts. The buyers in the USA prefer to work through agents, and the agents typically offer around R80k for these.

I decided to hold out and see if I could get R150k for it locally. I had a few interested buyers but no one came through with the money for around two months. In the end, I sold it to an exporter for just under R140k.

Our family was willing to let it go was because we agreed to use the money to buy an offroad caravan. We have a L322 and a D3 V8 for safe, long-distance adventures. It was an emotional sale but in the end, it was the right decision for us. We had such fantastic adventures in a vehicle that we paid R50k for 10 years ago. Making a profit on a special vehicle like this is such a pleasure.

I'd be happy to send you the exporter's details, if you'd like.

I agree. A relative of mine has an absolutely mint 2.8i 110 that he wants to export and he is currently unsure of the process and who to speak to

I'd rather share them via PM. I don't want to create any opportunities where other exporters try put pressure on him to lower prices.

I have the same vehicle and yes the bulkhead is also galvanised.

Wouldn't let it go for less than R120,000 - you can't get a decent replacement for that much.

Put it in storage for a while as the prices are climbing.

My CT-reg 1995 300tdi 110 is eligible for import into the US as it is over 25 years old, so I have been watching the auctions on Bring a Trailer with interest. But the prices achieved for right-hand drive 110s do not make it a worthwhile venture, IMO
