Sjo oaks. The Landy Family darrem.

I was donated a complete body and rolling chassis from a well known member - who wants to stay anonymous - but a really big thanks to him.

So, the big part I need (the ladder) I have now plus fenders and a bonnet. I may even settle for the non facelift headlights.

If just the damn assessor can pull his finger out and contact me so that we can make arrangements.

I hope so too. Assessor is currently working on a buy-back value.

    For body parts yes.

Mechanical. My motor and box is good. Very very good.

I think with the body I can get and an understanding asessor, we will make this one a good one.

FFS. I wonder why it is to hard to kill a Landy. I just can't press that button.

Have a scrounge on the net for "Modifying Discovery 2 headlights to facelift" or similar, I remember seeing a very comprehensive how-to for that mod.

    Finally got an answer.

They will pay me out 60% minus access.

I am not going to split hair for another few thousand. This should do.

So, tomorrow morning I will have to get in the road and fetch the donor vehicle.

Sigh. Let the blood sweat and tears begin...

There will be a quite a bit of project management to be done.

So if it was 100k insured they will pay you 60k, you still have to pay the Access and you get it back instead of getting the 100k and no car is that how it works

    Exactly.

Point is, if I get R 100 000, then I need to find another car and repair what is needed.

I paid R 75 K for mine, and immediately then dropped another R 30K on it for tyres, engine mounts, oil changes, etc etc.

Then I reinstated the rear air suspension in the lockdown period, fitted new shocks and some more goodies, all in all another R 10K of spares.

This December I have fitted a new water pump, radiator, radiator pipes, ACE pipes and a few other minor bits, another R 12K of spares only.

Then I had to rebuild the motor, and replaced some hydraulic pipes. R 37K

So ja. I think this is a reasonable deal. For me at least.

Right oaks, the ball is rolling.

Tomorrow morning me and son will take the road to JHB in a D3 with a car trailer behind.

    Insurance will pay me shortly.

I need to cover the horrible tow-in costs, but lets not loose sleep about that.

I hope we can have the lady run again in 3 or 4 weeks.

All I need to think of now is a really original way to say thanks.

Boet, this is the way the Landie family works!

Do a proper job, post lots of photos and I'm convinced whoever donated the body will be more than chuffed.

If you shuffle some biltong or throat lubricant his way it will probably be seen as a bonus.

If you "draai vas" with something, give Jaco and/or Kiewiet in Bloem a call - I'm sure you know them. (If not, I'll PM their number to you.)

    Enjoy the project!!!

Did they give any indication of how they worked out what they wanted for the buy back?

Knowing how those kind of people work they may gouge you a bit with the initial buyback offer but if you counter offer something slightly above normal salvage value they will accept because it's still above what they are obligated to sell the vehicle for to their contracted salvager.

We simply worked on the maximum value they can spend without writing off the vehicle.

So, when I am finished it is still a code 2 and can be reinsured.
