Default Garmin Nuvi2495, MapSource and Routes

I am old school, therefore the reference to MapSource. I just can not get from Basecamp what I get out of MapSource. For me it is simple and much easier to create routes. I do this on my laptop when preparing for a trip.

However for a while now I battle to download the various routes I have created on T4A in MapSource to my Garmin Nuvi2495.

Please I need help. Is there perhaps a member that can assist?

You are not alone! I cannot fathom why Garmin dropped Mapsource!

    Spook

I am no expert but do it all the time with my nuvi - older one than yours -

I assume you are plugging the nuvi in to the laptop via a usb cable ?

If your computer recognizes the nuvi then mapscource should as well

If ypu click on transfer then send to device does your nuvi show up

then tick routes and waypoints and press send

which part of these are you getting error messages on ?

Ross, I never had a problem with my older Nuvi's. Had a Garmin Nuvi 500 & 710. Then we had a burglary and the Nuvi's were stolen (2016).

The new Nuvicam and this Nuvi2495 is driving me up the wall. At least I did manage to load the routes via Basecamp onto the Nuvicam, but eish the Nuvi2495, aikona!

Mapsource does not even see the Nuvicam, but it does see the Nuvi2495.

PS - I don't get an error message, it just does not load the routes.

I only use Mapsource, easly to use and works well for me.

    Regarding your problem.

Check if you are writing to the Nuvi memory or to the micro SD card.
Then go and find the uploaded info from that storage on the Nuvi.
I am not very familiar with the Nuvi 2495, but the basics of the Nuvi's are quite similar.

I have just now tried both internal memory and SD card. Still the same, no routes!

The search function base camp is good, thats all. Further its cumbersome to use.

But it seems Basecamp needs to be on your PC for Mapsource to work properly. Not sure if this is the issue with send/receive. However I also remember a few instances where use Basecamp to download a route when Mapsource don't wanted to do it.

    Updating of the Nuv's software?

    Ok, from the begining.

Does Mapsource "see" the Nuvi ?

Should see two write paths something like:

Nuvixxx - this being the Nuvi memory
    and
a letter like, H:\ - this being the SD card

Does it write to the Nuvi succesfully or not ?

Have you "ticked" the "What to Send" boxes for the info to send to the Nuvi: Routes, Tracks. Maps, etc. ?
Are you running Mapsource Ver 6.16.3
Have you formatted the SD Card ?
Try removing the SD card completely and then write to Nuvi memory only.
Use a different USB cable, some cheapies are for charging only and can't transfer data or it may be damaged.
Check in your PC's "Device Manager" see if there isn't a USB error warning when you plug in the Nuvi. (Driver error)
As JLK mentioned, is the Nuvi running the latest firmware.

If all of the above are in order, then it has been successfully written to the Nuvi. You just need to find it, select it or whatever it takes on the Nuvi to get it to "Show Route". The correct selections will be in the Nuvi submenus somewhere.

    Message says transfer was successful

Have you "ticked" the "What to Send" boxes for the info to send to the Nuvi: Routes, Tracks. Maps, etc. ? Comes up automatically with waypoints & routes ticked

Are you running Mapsource Ver 6.16.3 Yes

Have you formatted the SD Card ? Nope, because it's my T4A sd card that is in the slot.

Try removing the SD card completely and then write to Nuvi memory only. Done that, but it did not help

Use a different USB cable, some cheapies are for charging only and can't transfer data or it may be damaged. No cheapie, I use the Garmin cable that came with the unit

Check in your PC's "Device Manager" see if there isn't a USB error warning when you plug in the Nuvi. (Driver error) No error, it sees the Nuvi perfectly.

As JLK mentioned, is the Nuvi running the latest firmware. Yes. It was updated just before I started to download my routes
Hope I have answered everything. Only thing outstanding is a SD card. Will have to buy one and then try that option as you mentioned as well.

Thanks for all the help this far. I do appreciate it.

That may be a problem. Is the T4A SD card not write protected ?

Anyway if the write is successful it is on the Nuvi somewhere. Just need to find it and activate/show the route.

You can confirm this by opening a fresh blank Mapsource in a new TAB and download the previously written routes from the Nuvi to Mapsource, if the routes now show in Mapsource it is confirmed to be on the Nuvi.

I also have a 2495. I will see if I can install Mapsource over the weekend to see if I experience a similar problem.

Do you experience the same when trying to transfer routes you created in Garmin's Street maps?

Hi Danie, I have never used Garmin streetmaps. With a gps and for a trip, I only use T4A. From the very beginning I would use mapsource & t4a on my laptop to create the routes. Then download it to a gps. Since we had to replace our old gps I had this route problem. I found that mapsource does not even see the nuvicam. So I copy the routes to basecamp and from there I can transfer the routes. As we keep our tracks, I follow the same path. I would upload the tracks from the nuvicam into basecamp and then copy it to mapsource into my tripfile. The nuvi2495 is a second gps that we use. It is the one we prefer. With all this batteling I manage to load a few routes, but what I don't understand is that only a selected few routes download. Not even in sequence. I deleted the routes from the 2495 and tried again. Same routes transfered. Eish, ek weet nie meer nie

from spooks answers in post 10

i think the nuvi unit itself needs to be queried

on mine it has limits in terms of number of routes and waypoints it can store

    maybe these are full

my t4 is also on a sd card plugged into the garmin but when transferring to the garmin i don't select where to put the data and i don't think that's an option

OK, I think I found the solution for not seeing the Nuvi 2495 in Mapsource. Thanks to Google. Do the following on the Nuvi:

    1. Start NUVI by itself and go to Volume Screen.
    2. Press the upper right hand corner of screen for 10 seconds.
    3. The Developers Screen will pop up
    4. Scroll down to MTP SETTINGS
    5. Change from AUTO DETECT to MASS STORAGE
    6. Shut down NUVI and connect to PC
    7. It should now connect in mass storage mode and Mapsource will see it.
As an alternative to step 1 above, you can bring up the Nuvi's "dashboard" screen, then press and hold the speedometer for about 10 seconds to access the developer screen.

Now it is only to sort out your routes transfer from Basecamp.

Danie & Ross, herewith a cut from Mapsource. On the left are the routes I have created. When I download it only transfer 1,2,3,9,11,15 & 17. If it was about space, would it not have done for example only the first say 6-8 routes and left out the rest?

Same happens when I try and transfer via Basecamp. Yet in Basecamp I can see the route must be on the Nuvi2495. I just can not find in "trip planner".
