Selling your Defender into the USA

I'm starting to think the time has come to sell the 1994 110V8 to someone in the USA.

This is a very emotive subject for me as my family has owned Land Rovers since the day after I was born. I need to make peace with the fact that using a classic 4x4 station wagon is not an optimal way to get technicians up mountains and the damage they are doing to that vehicle is such that it's better she goes to a place where she can be loved and nurtured. There are other brands of 4x4 that are more suited to the abuse they mete out.

We use 4x4s as tools to get a job done. My days of traveling through Africa in a Landy are long gone.

Has anyone gone down the export road and done it themselves?

I'm not interested in selling it to the guy down the road from me for pennies so that he can respray it and sell it on.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I was thinking exactly the same thing, now that my V8 is 25 years old - I am not at all enthusiastic about selling, but it might be the sensible thing to do and I don't want to give it away.

What about the UK, do they not have a 25yr threshold as well?

Eben, why don't you give Arno at Pon Steyn Motors in S/West a call? He's a good oke and they've been exporting Landies to the States for yonks. He'll be able to tell you the pitfalls, pros and cons. For instance what's the USA stand on RHD vehicles? Tell him I sent you.

Canada only has a 15yr threshold. RHD vehicles are allowed
