Default First Time Buyer (LR Freelander 2)

    Good evening All

I have been following this forum for a while now, in search of recommendations for the best compact 4x4 (or all wheel drive) available at my budget (R200k).

Although this will not be my first car, it will be the first car that I buy on my own (my first car was a hand-me-down 2008 VW Polo which I still own).

After considering a number of recommendations across various threads, I have decided that a LR Freelander 2 SD4 (2012-2014) is the ideal for me. The reasons for my choice are as follows:

    1. Reliable
    2. Within budget at decent mileage
    3. Capable off-road
    4. Compact but not too small (Jimny out of the question)
    5. Easy on the eye

I am reaching out to the community for opinions on the deal below. I would love to hear your thoughts on whether it is at a reasonable price? Should I hold out for an SE or HSE model in a similar price range? Should I wait for a better deal from a private seller?

Some additional details on the car:

    - Serviced with LR while under service plan
    - 70,000km service done with Gateway 4x4, LR specialists.
    - The dealership has not traced the 90,000km service (not sure why this would be the case) but the car has been booked in for a service, also with Gateway 4x4.
    - The dealership will be sending me the service book and vin number in the morning.

Any feedback would be very much appreciated.

Did you end up buying it?

The price seemed a little bit steep to me.

I did not end up buying. I have reconsidered my choice all together.

Since this last post I have sold my car (R50,000, we buy cars) and have been searching for an alternative to the FL2, seriously considering a Gen 3/4 Pajero swb.

The FL2 is actually a brilliant buy.
It is light on fuel too.
My friend has one, a 2011 model with 70000km on. He loves it. Takes him places he hasn't seen in a long time.

The Pajero SWB is very good too. Small, but very good.

Thanks for the responses so far.

My friend informed me that I won’t be able to drive up to see the snow at Matroosberg with anything other than a proper 4x4. Please let me know if he’s lying.

Since I want a compact car, this left me with a choice between a Jimny (a little too small for my liking) or a Pajero swb.

I have found the following Pajero and will be taking it to a mechanic as soon as I can. At this price I can buy the car cash.

He is absolutely correct. They only allow vehicles up with a proper low range
Always think: Could this be sarcasm?
