    Default Moan gatte

Are we not just a lot of moaning old wieners?

The fuel price goes up by a couple of cents and we carry on as if it's the end of the world and that we have to stock up for the apocalypse..

You will probably have to queue for 30min at the fuel station this afternoon.. so that you can save yourself R45.00.

I think we need to start realizing that we are actually quite well off here in good old RSA, we only pay +/- R16,00 for diesel.

Go check out the UK and Europe prices

    Seriously

    think about it

We pay half the fuel price compared to 1st world countries (barring America) and then we bitch about our road conditions and infrastructure shortages.

    Too true.

But moaning has become a national sport.
Others take it more seriously (protests and the destruction of property) while some moan on a public forum.

But the fuel levy is not ring fenced to have it's ~R60 Billion PA go to roads (never mind infrastructure), so we can bitch because the government is probably misspending it on other things instead of roads.

There are very few counties that ring fence the income generated from fuel levies

Further to this, I think we should also realize that petrol prices only go up or down once a month. So you and businesses can plan for that. In places like the US the price can change daily. Go to fuel station A today and pay one price only to pay more or less the very next day. Or you can get multiple prices for petrol from filling stations on the same street. Talk about wild west.

I have been in the trade for nearly 20 years and never understand why the man on the street fills up before an increase. For most cars its like R30 saving on a 50c increase.

    It's all psychological.

Our minimum wage is roughly $250 per month.

A minimum wage burger flipper in the US averages $1 800.00 per month. That is considered a middle class income in South Africa.

    Seriously, think about it.

I also don't do it, purely because having to start my car, drive there, fill up and drive back will probably cost me the amount I am going to save.

Other people point out that its their way of screwing the government, because they will pay that little bit less to them. I understand this, but in the grand scheme of things the saying of spiteful people spite themselves come to mind, my time is worth more than spiting the government for a few cents.

To the OP, comparing us to other countries can open a whole can of worms. In Amsterdam I, and many other people, had no need for a car, so fuel prices can be high, as public transport sorts you out most of the time. In SA, we can't really rely on SAFE, RELIABLE public transport.

You guys should see what the housing costs are else where... the fuel, drink etc.. A dinner at a mid tier steakhouse or pizza place will set you back R1.5k for 2 people and they do not sell Richelieu
