    Default 50ppm diesel availability.

I see some posts from 2017 saying that 50ppm diesel is not readily available in Zambia. We are planning a 6 week trip to Namibia, Zambia, Tanzania, Malawi and Botswana and the Ford Everest does require 50ppm. Anyone have any knowledge of where it is available or what does one do if it is not!! Neither of us are mechanical minded at all!

Last time I heard (probably 2years ago) 50 ppm was only available in Livingstone. Probably Lusaka as well.

Your options are: you either carry enough 50 ppm diesel, you fill up with what you get or get a vehicle that can run on 500ppm or higher.

...and when you come back have diesel filter changed.

Some will say add an extra diesel filter before venturing across the borders.

Agreed Prof. We took an external Racor diesel filter, it helps a lot for particles, but I don't think it will solve the 50 ppm conundrum. For that a proper oil change and filter replacement is needed on return.

Don't worry about the 50ppm. Take a spare diesel filter (or two) and have the instructions how to replace it with you.

From another thread, I downloaded the iOverlander app and in some cases it does pin locations where 50ppm is available.

There is a marked location not too far from our house and I still need to go and verify.

In Zambia 50ppm is not yet available. They have what they call low sulphur diesel (LSD) and you find this in major towns. The Zambian LSD refers to 500ppm diesel, not 50 ppm - very confusing.

The only issue with 500ppm diesel is what ever emission control is the exhaust will be clogged over time. One trip will not contribute too much to that.
