My 2005 Land Rover Freelander will not go into gear once you start it. If it is off you can merrily play around with the gears but once it starts NOTHING! I checked the transmission oil and all good, actually all necessary liquids are good, battery good. What are the list of probable faults I could work my way through.

Is the pedal in any way spongy or not feeling right? If so, it may be your master or slave cylinder, but my money will be that Disco Frans has nailed the cause.

Without much detail, it is hard to diagnose, however, I had the same problem on my Discovery 2 manual after a transfer case replacement.
In my case, it was an incorrect pressure plate fitted. A proper bleed lessened the symptoms, but never really resolved the issue.
I would hazard a guess and say spigot bush or done for clutch

Bracket that secures slave cylinder to engine cracks resulting in clutch not releasing completely.
