Default Puma 2.4 fuel supply/high pressure line failure.

Drove 5am this morning and got a heavy diesel smell in the cab of the 130.
2km further the truck cut out and I was stranded... for the 1st time in 13 years of landy ownership.

anyway, opened the bonnet and Diesel was sprayed towards the bottom side of the engine where the fuel pump is mounted.

The diesel return line felt loose, but can obviously not cause the fuel starvation.
So I suspect the copper seals on either the supply line connection to the pump or the high pressure line connection from the pump to the injector rail..

the Ultra gauge showed the fuel rail pressure as normal before cut out..

    Anyone had a similar experience?

yea, was just off the highway and across the fuel station when she died.. slowly coasting to the side.

Fuel cooler is more on the chassis, the wet diesel was directly around the 2 pump connectors.
Suspect the supply as the high pressure side is 20bar, then fuel would have been every where..

I cleaned out the 130 over the weekend and removed the toolbox and more importantly the fire extinguisher ... this could have ended very BAD.

Main PITA will be to bleed the damn thing again ... should really look into fitting the secondary filter with manual bleed pump ..

I just pressurise the fuel tank via breather to bleed - very little air pressure and flow needed, but make sure line is disconnected at engine side before pressurising...

heard about that trick before (and dangers of over pressuring) 'will get my Son to Blow into the tank until all air is out' hahaha

    Yes Sorry!

So it was a hairline crack in the hi-pressure line from the pump to injector rail , right in the bend.

Very odd place to crack, possibly due to stressing the line previously when someone worked on teh injectors, pump etc..

    2nd hand pipe was R450

any hoo, going like a Boeing again!
