Of gaan ons lekker kamp ?

    Groete

To give you some more info.
On the West Coast the winter days are usually very nice except when there is a cold front passing through.
Usually after 10 in the morning it's hot enough to wear a t-shirt, but for a few days after the cold front it'll be cold.

The nights can be chilly but rarely below 5°C.

The wind usually starts after 11, if you wake up and the wind is blowing then it's going to pump that day.
Strong winds during winter is usually with a passing front.(SW turning to NW and then back)

I generally enjoy winter on the West Coast more than summer and all my camping is in winter as I don't like the heat that much.

Ellie to give you an example. We once went to Rooiduin outside Lambert's Bay for a weekend. Was high summer. On the way there we hit temperatures of 40 degrees and my Cruiser's aircon decided to quit! Was very hot. We camped next to the sea and that night the temperatures dropped so much we went into town the next morning to get extra blankets!

So my response was only semi tongue in cheek. But yeah generally autumn and spring are less prone to extremes although I have had very good summer and winter times there. Very difficult to predict.

The West Coast is well known for its seasonal weather - that is FOUR seasons in ONE DAY at times!

Having lived in Vredenburg for almost 10 years I can attest to the above.

You wake up in the morning and it's misty - like in autumn
By 11hoo the sun starts baking down on you and it is hot - like in summer
Around 15h00 the wind picks up and you sigh for the well deserved relief from the heat - almost like spring
After dark the cold front starts rolling in from the sea and before you know it the rain is pouring down - like in winter.

So there you have it - all 4 seasons in ONE day!!

However March and April has some of the MOST magnificent days - specially if you are wanting to camp.

Oct to Dec is the windy season.

One thing about the WEST Coast - you never know what to expect up front, but it helps to check the weather forecasts regularly and even 2 weeks in advance.

    Enjoy the WC!

I have camped a lot next to the west coast and as has been said before there are no guarantees.

The best chance for perfect weather is definitely March (maybe beginning of April).

The railway service road between Elandsbaai and Lamberts Bay is a toll road. Not sure where to get a permit but the locals in either town will help out and point you in the right direction.

You will NOT be able to get from Kwass se baai to Groenriviermond without 4x4 High clearance vehicle. I have just been through there last week, the sand is thick, if you stop for any reason or loose momentum it may even need Low range to get moving again.
