If they are not current, they will need be sent away for pressure testing and certification.
The pressure testing is not expensive and can be done (sent away) by your local fire extinguisher service center for the tests.

So just be aware of this when buying a used cylinder, as if may not be current and may not pass the pressure test and inspection.

These dates are usually punch stamped onto the cylinder around the shoulder/neck area.
Thanks for this. I got a quote for a filled Air Liquide cylinder and they also refill at reasonable cost.

There is some Migarc 200 info here on the 4x4 CF in the last link below that you may find useful, I will repost some of the info here again for completeness.

I have also attached the MIGARC 200 pdf user manual and a pdf with some of my settings that work for me.

I compiled the list of settings from numerous sources and some practical testing. The settings are general, there is a lot of latitude as the welder is quite forgiving.

I weld with CO2 as shielding gas.

This link guide was sent to me by Pinnacle: https://www.pinnacleonline.co.za/blo...s-and-settings

    if I remember correctly -

Teryl gas is more forgiving, giving a nicer arc with argon and is easier to weld thin steels. Less distortion when welding. Think its for less than 4/5 mm

Co2 gives more penetration, more spatter but with a welder with slope and other settings can match teryl.
Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler.

I “bought” a air liquid bottle from a gas supplier bussiness for R2000 about 4 years ago.
They always filled it up for me(exchanged).
Short while back they said that they not gonna fill the bottles they sold me anymore, but I must now take my bottle back to them,….they will give me two months rent free(R500) and then I gotta start paying a monthly rent.

Needles to say what I told them…
But I have a bottle,…..but can I make any claim to it. I didnt sighn for it? I just gotta keep on filling it somewhere.

Is it possible to buy these bottles. Lost of these gas retailers want to buy it from me. I guess they have more stock(bottles) on hand than what Air liquid is aware of and now they want to rent them out on the sideline……

There was a discussion on FB regarding the cylinder issue and seems partly to blame on the safety aspect of these going out of date. If I can buy and refill a diving cylinder rated at 300 bar, keeping up with test and inspection, why not for any other cylinder?

I really want a shielding gas of sorts and would like to have small cylinder. With the amount of welding I do it would take years to finish a large cylinder all whilst having to schlep it all over the place.

Divers use argon for drysuit fills but these are the rare tek divers. If anything, Peter Herbst at reef divers PTA can point you into the right direction for a tank.

He can also organize hydro tests and inspections

Those cylinders are never for sale. You rent them. So you should take it for a refill and they should only refill if you have an account. But nobody by us does. The just swop.

Correct the cylinder is never sold, the quote is probably for a deposit on the cylinder.
Air Liquide is the one to go for, Afrox is full of it.

Brandt there is a air liquide outlet in Honneydew, Instruweld, no issues and have a full range if wire and other consumables at not bad prices
