    Default Baviaans Report

We left after work on Thursday afternoon from East London. We slept over in Port Afred at a friend's place on the Marina (which in itself was awesome as well)

Friday morning we left for Makkedaat Caves via Patensie entrance to the Baviaans conservation area.

It's truly a masterful piece of Earth.

Friday night we saw 21 satellites and 6 shooting stars and a gazillion stationary stars.

The Pajero didn't put a foot amiss. It hit 300'000km on the Saturday on the Makkedaat farm. The only ailment was the spots that rattled broken and fell off.

Other than that I can report the rest as it was our 12 year anniversary

Remember to take R51.00 per person for the permit to enter Baviaans. It has to be cash. We only had R101.00 on us. We were lucky, otherwise you have to drive back to Patensie for cash. There's no signal at the entrance so you can't g online to pay for the permit.

Also, if you have a firearm and disclose it like a good citizen, they have to seal it with a plastic thingamabob so you won't use it in the reserve. I was a bit peeved at this. (Like a skelm will disclose it.... - the car wasn't searched - a skelm won't disclose it - anyway, I'll start a different thread on this)

For years we've driven past the Baviaanskloof on the way to the Tstsikamma. Oblivious to the beauty we are passing.

Discovered it about 20 years ago and since then been there a lot of times!

This thread is making me think of a quick solo-breakaway!

Marius, I see you did not camp. What were the accommodations costs and name of accommodations pls. I would love to do a Baviaans trip again in the future. Nice to see the mountains are green again. Last time I did the route, they just had a big fire there.

Truly a beautiful area. Stayed in that same cave a few years ago. Was a special experience.
