My wife and I would like to make a trip to the NP in April but, not ever having been there, have no idea where to go and which are the better areas.
Both camping and self-catering will be considered.
Any ideas?

If you want to camp, I suggest Langkloof over Perdekloof. Book both sites at Langkloof for total privacy. If you want to wild camp, go to Skaapwagterspos.
For self catering, Elandsberg are nice and comfy but for the real Tankwa experience try one of the remote cottages like Varschfontein.
It's a must visit destination - Enjoy and give us a report back.
P.S. Take your puncture repair plugs.
Had an awesome time at Gannaga Lodge about 6 years ago when I stayed there.

Elandsberg chalets used to have severe bee problems from time to time and splash pools could not be used. Best check with the office on current situation before booking.

Yes, you've got a good point there Malcolm. It is a bit tedious driving the 16 Kms (?) every time you want to check out the rest of the park.
A place I still want to visit sometime..... Do they have a high season there? Is the a time of year that you battle to find place, or is it more or less the same all year round?
Malcolm van Coller - retired 2013 but remained in Jhb area for now, maybe will look at moving WC way, Robertson or Wellington type of town, once the wife retires.

I don't think they would consider any time "high season". It's not a particularly busy park but I think most visitors would avoid mid summer and mid winter when the temperatures would be extreme.
The prices of Elandsberg chalets (not sure about the other accom) do increase during the flower season - August/ September - so I guess you could call this the high season.

I’d assume the bees could/would be just before, during, after the flowers season i.e. Aug to Oct.
I was there in Dec ‘20. Stayed at Elandsberg. Really amazing accommodation. Can’t comment on the camping.
+30km to the reception from Calvinia entrance and if heading in/out from Ceres side you’re looking at +-150km gravel (hence the puncture kit). Be sure to have a full tank on entrance and lower tyre pressures for the gravel, 1.5bar was about right for me

Awesome, any other options around?, in or near the park?
I love Steenkampshoek. That majestic view of the Tankwa valley is exquisite and closer to your Creator you will not get.
