Default Kruger campsites with good cell phone reception

    Hi all,

Does anyone know or have a list of KNP campsites that have good cell phone reception or even Wifi.

With working from home the norm for my wife and I for the foreseeable future, we are contemplating a week long trip to KNP where we work from a campsite in the day and do game drives and other activities in the early morning and late afternoon.

I know many members of the forum will object to the idea of working while in the KNP, but a combination of cabin fever and limited leave means we are trying to explore different ways of exploring SA.

No need to apologise - we did exactly this (although staying in chalets) twice since the Park reopened after lockdown. Rule of thumb - stick to the borders of the Park.

The reception in both Malelane and Pretoriuskop was more than sufficient for Teams calls and general day-to-day work. The Wimpy at Pretoriuskop has open Wifi and they are more than happy for you to sit outside at their tables and use it as long as you have a few coffees.

Can't comment on any other camps as these are the ones we worked from.

Maroela yes. Shingwedzi, very bad and slow. Tsendze none. We drove to Mopani (not a campsite) to get connection, but that was also dodgy. Best was sitting in the parking terrain. Those are just the one's we visited recently.

I have worked or tried to work in the following camps within Kruger:
    - Maroela was able to work and stream world cup rugby
    - Letaba also fine, worked in the camp site in October although had to move every now and again to follow the shade
    - Shingwedzi, when we arrived there was reception but it went off during our first day so had to drive to Mopani to get work done
    - Tshendze/Mopani, can't work in Tshendze but can work in Mopani although it's not the speediest connection
    - Punda Maria no

I have not been to the Southern camps in awhile but I would think that most of the bigger camps should be fine

The entire stretch on the road from Tsendze to Mopani has wonderful cell coverage!
In December I even had a few voicenote conversations with my Mrs at a few spots in the camp (hit and miss).

    Hi again everyone,

We had planned to work in Kruger for a week but we now need to stay in a hotel or lodge outside the park in the southern Kruger area to accommodate an important work call for one night of our trip. Does anyone have any recommendations on a lodge in the area where there is a fast and reliable internet?

The reception at Pretoriuskop on 3G is more than sufficient for a work call. With full video etc.

I've not stayed at any lodges surrounding Kruger so cani assist, sorry.

That Selati Train on the Bridge lodge at Skukuza looks great. Not sure if it has good internet, but any excuse to stay there

The Selati Express looks amazing but a bit pricey for us.

Am I right in saying that there is LTE at Skukuza? So even if the wifi is slow it would be possible to do a video call using cell phone data?

    Thanks,

Anyone been in the Lower Sabie area recently and struggled with cell reception?

FIL there at the moment and he said signal is non-existent there. MTN. Only had reception when they were in Crocodile Bridge camp where he got some messages out.
