    Default Oewerzicht Farm Campsite review

We went camping at this beautiful location in high summer; January 2021.

This was my second time at the Oewerzicht Farm Cottages and Campsite and much like on the first occasion; I was blown away by the stunning location, scenery, amenities and general rightness about the place.

It is close to Cape Town being about a 90 minutes drive along the N2 (currently undergoing roadworks from about Caledon as has been the case for the past 2 years...) and then a short 10 minute drive on a very well maintained gravel road.

There are several different accommodation options available ranging from very well designed cottages (located either on the hill side over looking the camp or next to the river). The campsite is located right next to the Sonderend river and has 25 grassed sites. Most have a bamboo pergola for shade, privacy and as a wind break. Most have trees. All have braai facilities and electricity with a standard 3 prong socket. The sites are much bigger than is the norm and as such you'll have plenty of space. There is a central ablution and wash up area. The ablution facilities are modern and very clean. There are outside and inside showers. There was plenty of hot water even after the breakfast run.

The river made for awesome swimming and boating with the inflatable boat. The depth ranges from 1,5 meters to very shallow. We boated about 5km downstream and had a blast. The are some minor rapids which were fun.

There is a shop that opens in the evenings selling braai wood, ice and snacks.

There farm is dog friendly which is a huge plus. It is a working farm with apple and pear orchards. There are also wheat fields and skaapies.

There is an immaculately maintained tennis court. Best used earlier before it gets too hot!

The quaint town of Greyton is a short 9 km drive away along a gravel road. There are many sumptuous restaurants and coffee shops in die dorp. There is a lovely market every Saturday morning. The free roaming horses in the town were magical.

We were blessed to be able to drive up to Breakfast Rock on the Bosmanskloof mountain side overlooking Greyton. We went up in a Wrangler Rubicon. Not for the faint of heart as there are shear drops down the mountain side. However once at the top the views are celestial.

This is a very special campsite and is right up there with the top 10 in the Western Cape. I highly recommend staying here.

Dit is regtig een van die beste kampplekke in die land.
Vrywaring: Niks wat ek hier kwyt raak moet hoegenaamd as feite beskou word nie.
