New Exhaust Manifold (and gasket)
Hi Guys...
So towards end last year, around Oct/Nov my 2018 gd6 'Dakar' started "whistling" under accellerarion...especially when cold for that few seconds...
Was on a mission trip up in northern Botswana early Dec with a load in the back and towing a Bushlapa Miskruier...on our way back my fuel consumption also dropped through the floor...4km/L ...granted there was also a wind at an angle from the front but this was ridiculous...556km on 135L of diesel!!!!
...anyhow, got back to Pretoria and booked the hikux in for its 80k service...odo was now at 81000km due to our trip...and explained about the bad fuel consumption and the "whistle"...
So they advised me the exhaust manifold gasket is blown (and showed me thw soot marks) but my warranty was not gonna cover it as I have a free flow exhaust fitted and that this was the fault of the exhaust...I left it there and now budgeting to have fixed at my own cost.
Long story short(er)...2 weeks ago, the dealership calls me and says they have just received a bulletin from ToySA that there is a problem with (up to my year model) 2.8 gd6 hilux exhaust manifold which leads to blown exhaust manifold gasket...replace at ToySA expense when a vehicle comes in with this issue reported...so probably not a recall campaign...
So my hilix is going in on Tuesday for a brand new exhaust manifold and gasket...
So asking some more questions, the "down pipe" immediatly backward from the turbo was changed in 2019...to effectively a free flow...the DPF and CAT have been removed...so I think there was the issue...
Anyway...that is about that...
