probably trying to set you up for the scam that's going around, if you respond to that message, people will call you and tell you they are from dealer X, your car has a recall against it, they will come fetch the car, to sort it out and then return it, only they are not from dealer x and your car is now stolen..

I received the same SMS this morning. My first thought was that it's a scam, but I called Nissan and they confirmed a passenger side airbag recall on my Patrol. Booking to made next week. Perhaps you should call your local dealership on their official number and check if there are any outstanding recalls on your vehicle/s VIN.

Over a million vehicles in South Africa will have to be recalled for inspection. This is due to them possibly being fitted with faulty Takata Airbag Inflators between 2002 and 2015.

Be careful, this scam is very sophisticated, seems in some cases they have an insider at the dealer so the "reason" can even be legit but the person that's contacting you is not, they are just piggy backing on the recall to expropriate your vehicle.

Cool, my nearest General Motors dealership is most probably Detroit City. I've been meaning to visit the Great Lakes for some time now. I'll just have to book myself into a Covid dealer first for a quick Vacc-job.

Go on the Mitsubishi SA website and fill in the vin number after selecting the Takata airbag recall tab, it will tell you if your vehicle is affected. My Triton is a 2009 and I have arranged for the recall repair to be done on Wednesday, my manager has a 2008 Ranger and his is going in on Thursday. I would be careful of the sms but it seems sort of legit, but just phone the closest dealer to you as they need to book the vehicle anyway.

RUN BOET!!! Ask around at secondhand dealers and new car service departments. They have all sorts of scams going where everything looks legit until your pride and joy disappear over a border somewhere. This relates to faulty tracker units, airbag/brake/gearbox etc. etc. etc recalls. Be very wary.
