Default Small generator with auto switch on

Does anyone know of a small "outdoor" generator (either petrol or diesel) that has an auto power on function?

I need something to backup a 5KVA inverter. The genset does not need to be massive.

    Thanks.

Any electric generator can have a mains failure control panel built for it, that will start it when the mains go down

    Just double check your inverter.
Many of them is too sensitive for small generators where the voltage or frequency is not electronically regulated.
You can connect a battery charger to the genset and "backup" the inverter that way.

That's what I do at almost every high site. Meanwell 30A or 20A direct to the batteries and the gennie. Means I can power a "big" site off a little 2.8KVA Ryobi.

Here is a South African guy how did this with what looks like a 5.5 kVA Ryobi and a GSM Commander (Made in SA)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGaJ3bOXnzY

There are also plenty of Arduino controllers that have been used in this way if you search the web.

I think the GSM Commander will be simpler, but there are a few electrical and control bits and bobs required to make this work

Pity a proper genset controller like a Deep Sea Control Unit costs more than cheapie generator and that excludes the actual switching electrical hardware

Genny needs to be self starting, as in battery/starter

    That's me!!!

http://www.powermasterproducts.co.za/. Ek het myne by Agrinet in Samrand Gauteng gekoop paar jaar terug.

Ek is BAIE seker as jy daai Ryobi met 'n GSM Commander kon laat loop sal hierdie vir jou maklik sal wees
