Amarok out of fuel

Hi members

I had recently sent my Amarok in for a service. Long story short we also took out the fuel tank for a professional clean. Nut on the top was loose and dirt and a bit of water had got in. The mechanic reassembled and put a bit of diesel back in. With the fuel gauge indicating 2 bars the engine just cut out while idling today. Won't start. I suspect maybe the gauge is not calibrated after everything that was moved and the vehicle ran out of fuel. I've now put 20l in and tried to start it but no luck. I know it needs to be primed and apparently this must be done with a vcds.

Would it be dangerous just to crank it over until it primes itself? Or is it okay to try that?

Apparently it is not good to do it that way, however I have done it twice now after replacing the diesel filter. My Rok is approaching 300k fast, and touch wood, no ill effects so far. If the diesel filter is empty, you have to crank it quite a bit before it starts.

Just stab the igntion for starter to swing engine. Do it a few times, that primes the low pressue side o filter.

Take it back to the garage. They bent the rod that the float is on
