In these times, it is normal to reflect on your life, is it not?
I have lived a full life, and I am very happy with how it turned out, and believe me, my life has been many things but perfectly happy and comfortable, it most certainly was not..
There are very few things that I would want to do over, and many of them I would rather not, because it might put what happened thereafter in jeopardy of not happening. If you know what I mean.
I do not say that I am now content and happy to pass if it so happens, but rather that I am happy with what has happened so far, but I still hunger for more.
There are so many people that just exist... People live in fear, have been taught to be so, or have decided themselves that a life of exclusion is the safest.
I will never be content with a life like that.. never.
Have you lived... yet?

In these times it’s more than normal but it’s not over yet, right?
Just last night I was listening to the oldest WW2 vet and it really inspired me to seize each day with new vigour.

From a bucket list point of view, I am not nearly there.
From a love and happiness and contentment point of view I am in the sweet spot.
I've lived a very full life so far by my own comparison, worked hard, good job, great family, traveled lots, done many things, tried many things, I can honestly say I feel very content.
The goal post always moves too, once you have done something the next thing pops up. I really wanted to overland Botswana. I did that and now I want to travel to Malawi. I really wanted to catch a 10lb trout, I think I have caught over ten now, mostly people might get one or two in their lifetime in South Africa. I have been very blessed.
In comparison, I have friends and peers who are truly inspirational, have done cape to London, have swam the channel, have been to Everest base camp, and I draw a lot of influence from them. I love reading about what people have accomplished on this forum and it drives me to do more. There are many incredible people in the community and it's fantastic to read about their exploits and achievements.
My bucket list grows, but if I were on my death bed today, I would smile.
When my old man passed away at 66, the only thing that consoled me was the fact he lived a very full life for his age, and I am so proud of that.
Life's too short. It really is.
Great thread. Warms my heart.

Here I'm thinking getting to the end of the week is an achievement.
I thought about this the other day.
We all have our bucket lists or thing we want to do before we kick that bucket, but does it really matter in the greater scheme of things? Well for me anyway.
My only goal in life is to pass down just a little something of myself to my kids. I'm not talking about physical attributes.
So that when I'm gone, something of me still lives in my kids that they can carry and pass onto their children and so on. They can't pass down things I experienced, but they can pass down my passion for something or something I taught them or a value I instilled in them.
I don't have a bucket list per se, but more a "things to show and teach my kids" list. Take them places to let them experience things that they can convey to their kids one day. (Hopefully)
"Hey kids, long time ago we went to this place with grandpa and we did this and this" ect ect.
I have already lived for myself before I had kids. I now live for my kids.![]()

I am comfortable but thats a result, an outcome.
I have had quite a varied life which spans continents. In the instances where my life flashes before my eyes, there are always moments where I go; ''I dont remember that!"
But I am restless. I always have been and I guess I always will be.

At 51 I was still Building on My Enjoyment and was Definitely not ready tp pass on !! same now at 70 it still applies so I AM careful as I have So much to enjoy and am far too young tpo check out having being retired for 2 weeks ..I have 25 more years at least in me so I am careful to benefit myself and my Kids and My Grand children so I am definitely not going to be selfish and get this thing and Loose it all ..You may have done everything > I also thought that when I ewas green behind the ears at 51
One thing i realised as i got older is i dont need things to be happy..I am a simple person and just being out in the mountains for a few days with family throwing a fly at some weary trout or riding my motorcycle around with friends are my happy moments.I am not rich but I have enough and i can say I am happy at work, home and play.My biggest concern is to save enough now to keep enjoying all the good times after i retire,if i am lucky to get there.
Life is actually very simple if you REALLY want it to be
I believe I have lived a fairly full life, but probably not to my potential. I've hurt some people (which I've regretted), been hurt myself, but generally try and "be the decent guy". Not sure I always succeed, but that's the intention anyway. Without crying about it (nor explaining it), I've always been the provider (and still am) for my (ex) wife and kids. Generally putting myself at the back of the queue; this has put a damper on some of what I would have liked to achieve.
That's why two years ago I bought my vehicle as a present to myself for change, regarding it as a 10-year project, planning to kit it out and explore Southern Africa, of which I've experienced very little. That's where I hope to finally answer the question "Have you lived yet".
Circumstances (including COVID) have already stolen two of those years - so it's time to get a move on...
Legacy? I don't think too many people will remember me as a box; but maybe I'm wrong![]()

I had a thought a couple of days ago, during an conversation.
I was thinking, do i leave an conversation, room, working environment, life etc. having given more than received or taken out more than given. In any way you may think.
I think we are supposed to give more than we receive. Peace is then not far removed from you and a full and meaningful life at your hand.

Sho, you guys are getting philosophical on us!
There is still a lot I want to do and achieve, but if I were to go today, I would be content knowing that I have placed my family in the best position possible to cope with life after me, religiously and financially.
But lets not kid ourselves - no one is ever "ready" to go.
Life ain't to short, it is as long as it needs to be, so enjoy it![]()

I cannot confidently say Yes, so I guess that means no, I haven't.
Not yet anyway.
My son is 2.5yrs, and my daughter is 2 weeks old. My life only actually started 2.5yrs ago. Everything before that was just play play - the massive jolling, drinking, playing with cars and other toys, travelling etc. All of that was awesome, and I have zero regrets, ok, maybe one - selling my beloved Defender V8 (), but, I have a feeling my life to really remember has only started now with the arrival of the kids.

Wise words.
I can hear my wife feeding our 7 week old (first born) as we speak, and you are right, while I can say I have lived a full life by my own standards, in some ways, its really only beginning. Everyone always talks about how kids changed their life, but until you are holding that little screaming ball of love, its inexplainable.
