We camped at Rust de Winter dam for a couple of nights in December 2020, its a pitty the ablution facilities is run down, its clean but no hot water, no shower heads, no toilet seats...
So it was quite the orginisation to take porta potties, setting up the showers and taking enough fresh water, we even mowed the lawn around the camp site, and no power... we did find out they have a reverse osmosis water purification unit at the gate so that helped quite a bit.
But it was fun, fishing was excellent this time so no complaints, overall a good camping trip.
Agreed, nice fishing spot, also very good birding spot. Yes, for camping, one would need to be totally self sufficient.
In the presence of the big crocs, it is unfortunately suicidal to be "playing" in or near the water. Making it a high risk zone if you have small kids.
At the moment however, the dam is closed due to Covid Lock Down.
