Hans Merensky Hotel will be liquidated Feb next year .
Hard to believe that this Icon of Phalaborwa has fallen .
I always thought that it belonged to Palabora Mining Company but was wrong .
As youngster growing up in Phalaborwa , I spent plenty of time there. Their swimming pool was free for anybody to use all year round .

They are not the first and won't be the last, sad but true.

One wonders if there is then a demand for a huge 4 star hotel in the area?
Somebody will get a bargain. Maybe Juju will branch into a new investment? Because this is the typical target of RET.

Spend lots of time in Palagat in during my hot and humid SADF days. Ja, so the giants fall one by one. Sad really.

A chef got bittin by a hipo there. Baboons on the rubbish dump, thunderflash sorted that lot out, probally still running.

Not so sure it is political or Covid. The club was bought by a lady who also bought a building in the centre of Tzaneen. She then kicked all the shops out started upgrading and the stopped never getting finsihed. I hear the same happened at HMC https://letabaherald.co.za/19383/han...in-a-big-mess/ Google Shamira Rinderknecht

This has been going on for some years now. I took on some work with the lady mentioned above; it was a fortune of collateral she wanted to be photographed and designed -we negotiated a contract for 5 months and I worked out a very tight schedule, stressing that I MUST be finished after 5 months because I had a job in Kenya. The deal was that she would pay the agreed amount at the beginning of every month. All fine and I did ALL the work but kept asking her to give me feedback. I would send work through and hear nothing. So continued every job. At the end of 5 months I had completed everything. Still no feedback on anything-I kept emailing, texting. Nothing so I assumed she must be happy with the designs. End of the 5th month, I said good-bye and thank you for the work. SHE EXPLODED...saying how could I just leave now? That I CANNOT leave. I reminded her of my project in Kenya and she ignored it. Sent her copies of all our communications. IMPOSSIBLE to work with somone like that. I of course told her where to stick it..![]()

I used to be amazed at the figures published about businesses going bust. No longer. It is just amazing how people get involved in businesses they know nothing about, can add to value and then wonder why they go belly up. Or it is just always aimed at being a money laundry for some other funds?

I am not a guru, but I worked in retail years back, and even that was hard work. In hospitality you face very long hours, fierce competition, and constant pressure to put bumbs on seats/beds.
My suspicion is that this is a sector, like aviation, that even in good times, you need to have matric to run, and if you do a stand out job the margins are probably still thin for the few that succeed.
Can you see Juju being interested in something that requires that level of skill, commitment and hard work? I think not!
