    Default Old tyres disposal

    Good day all.

I would like to dispose of a few old tyres . Anyone familiar with recycling companies / depots in Joburg where i would be able to safely dispose of these.?

    Thanks in advance.

    Stay safe.

I also have a few to dispose of. Apparently the tyre shops (my local SupaQuick in particular) will take then off your hands. I just haven't gotten around to it yet... try your closest tyre shop - it's something they need to do all the time...

    Thanks.

    Will try another spot.

Local guy close to me wasn't prepared to take them last week, and dispose of them for me.

Not worth selling as they are over 6 years age .

    Cheers

Leave them on the sidewalk, they will go away by themselves overnight.

There is a levy paid on every tyre, specific for the disposal there off. Drop it in front of their door after hours. It will most surely be gone the next morning in any case.

I have a guy collecting my old tyres. I have done so for one or two guys (mostly workshops closing due to Covid) but my guy isn't smiling if it is totally faaarked and he can't use it for something.

Theoretically, Redisa should collect, grind them up and use them in cement for low cost housing. Since the introduction of Redisa, which tyre manufacturers pay for (which means you pay for) they have been to my shop once. 18 months after we started paying, they came to collect with a Tuk-tuk ...I sell up to 30 tyres per day! So I told the guy to 'go forth and multiply' and haven't seen them again, it's been abouth 6 years now

Sorry I went off on a tangent there a bit, just urks me that these things are driving up costs, and getting money for nothing...

We take our old tyres to Tankwa Padstal, Middelpos, Tankwa tented camp, Bike X and any other out of the way place where anyone who wrecks a tyre can at least get home, At least we help the person in real trouble

I would say put it on the "Give it away before I toss it" thread. There will be surely someone taking it off your hands.

If there are any 265/65/18, 265/60/18 or 265/70/18 tyres that are being thrown away Id be happy to take a set... would be nice if they had at least 50-100km life left on them though... 😂
Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it.
