We visited a resort 15km outside Brits on the R511
today.
The shocking state of the town and roads are just mind boggling. On one stretch the cars literally drove next to the road to avoid the potholes. A bit further surage floods half the road.
I read some reports of the state of the municipality, but thought it was the media looking for sensation.
Now I see they were actually sugar coating the issue.

Will there be places left for our kids to visit when they grow up? Luckily the place we visited today was a real paradise

And yet all the municipal management and metro cops drive new Mercs.

I think the list will be shorter if we list towns in good nic.
Unfortunately all small towns are trash towns now.
Yet municipalities will still steal them broken till there is nothing left.

I think reason being is the beautiful clean towns were bult pre ‘94 and maintained by the then government.
Now its under new rule and maintained by people who do not stay in the towns but in the township so they couldn't care less.

And yet there is a drive to conglomerate the townships into the closest village / Dorp so the PAI pay for those who refuse due to promises of entitlement. "We demand, we want, for free, it is our right".

At its heart is the electoral system. No directly elected representatives to parliament. Which means that the so called representative actually doesn’t have to do anything locally.

Issues like transparency and accountability will overcome significant corruption if people have direct power over who we appoint to represent us. South Africa has enough money, it’s just not invested locally enough, because parliament is where the allocation is made

Yip as they say what was there before dirt roads in South Africa?
Brits Madibeng municipality is the most corrupt municipality in SA.
Hartbeespoort and Brits town which contributes the most to rates and taxes has zero budget allocated for the 4th year.
