We have a 3x3 canvas dome tent bought from Cristys long ago.

    https://www.cristys.co.za/dome-tents/

Excellent tent and stood the test of time ( hectic winds/rain) during our many West Coast trips and also at Stilbaai , where the wind is known to destroy tents.

This tent has a small "veranda" but I've never used it ( too small and too much extra poles/ropes/pegs ) for my liking.

We also have a 3x3 canvas gazebo with 3 sides ( also from Cristies) that we put in front of the tent - works well for our setup.

Haven't use the above setup in years due to having a caravan and then a boswa but will never let it go.

I'm in the market for 2 Tentco Senior Safari tents (3 x 3).There is apparently no stock in the entire RSA? Tentco also informed me that they have not planned to manufacture this tent for the entire year!?

Any ideas who may have stock?

Their factory in George was closed during lock-down - now they struggle to catch up. Some patience required.
I think the Senior Safari is one of their most popular product? They recently brought out an upgrade.

I am also waiting for a Tentco Safari Junior Bow, which is maybe only due to be back in stock next year.

So my question would be.... does anyone in the Western Cape have one in good condition sitting on a shelf that they may want to sell?

it's your lucky day!!! I have a Tentco Senior Wanderer sitting on a shelf right here in Somerset West,
Unused since I bought my RTT about 6years ago. Complete with 2 stretchers and luxury mattresses.

I haven't thought about a price yet, but it is time for it to go.
That also applies to other bits and pieces no longer needed since we switched to a Blinkgat Camper.

    Solar Panel
    Popup showertent
2x holders for Cadac bottles (roofrack)
    RTT ladder (telescopic)
    etc.

I was given an old Tentco Senior Wanderer from a building site. It stood in the sun, wind and rain for two years solid and was not looked after by the brickies.

I had all the zips replaced. Not the teeth, just the sliders.

I used it two weeks ago and got caught in a storm. The only leaks were at the seams in the corners.

I bought a couple of packs of Tentco's beeswax to reseal them.

Going to melt the wax in warm water and then paint it over the stitching with a small modelling brush. Time consuming, but I'm fussy.

The front awning is worth the money. You can leave the door up while it's raining.

I have a trailer full of nylon tents .... about four of them. from 2 man to 8 man. Will never buy nylon again. Canvas is my "Go To" tent now.

OK. I decided to dump all my nylon tents. All four of them.

All the seam tapes fall off resulting in leaks.

I bought a reasonable condition, 2nd hand 3x3 Tentco Senior Bow tent with skull cap and awning.

I had to have the zips replaced ..... and that's where the problem arises.

I couldn't figure out why I woke up top a wet floor a few weeks ago.

I cleaned the outside of the tent this morning with a bucket of plain water and a sponge.

That's where I notice all the old needle holes from the previous stitching for the zips !!!!

I had bought 5 litres of NuSeal to spray the tent with, but now I'm worried about all these pin prick holes. Will the NuSeal close them up ?

Or is something more substantial required.

Feeling a bit despondent as finances have never been good to buy new kit.

Would also like to know. I also have needle holes from a botched job someone did on my new ripstop rally tent.

Beeswax, cheap and readily available from Outdoor Warehouse will cover the pin holes along the seams, then Nuseal the entire tent.
Important to do this on a warm day to ensure you have ample penetration of the wax and NuSeal.

I would like to add my 5c. Most people skip this step or often forget that a new or nearly new canvas tent that hasn't seen decent rain and warm sunny days yet, requires an initial wetting by hose pipe and a sunny, warm drying period to fully seal the fabric seams. Cotton Canvas will swell up with water and when it dries, it doesn't go back to its initial factory dehumidified state and thus ensuring a tight fit everywhere.
I do beeswax on the seams and then Nuseal the entire thing, then I spray the tent with the garden hose to ensure the threads absorb enough water and swell out enough to form a water tight seal.

Also on a bright sunny day, get inside the tent and someone outside with a piece of chalk. Close the door and windows and then look for light everywhere. The beeswax works well and you can also use a hair drier to melt the wax into specific problem areas.
