Default Old Bedford RL 4x4 Truck

    Hi Forumites

Does anyone know much about these trucks? Believe they were used by SANDF in the 60's.
I may have the possibility of getting my hands on one and was thinking it could be a nice alternative to a Mog.

    1) Are there many still around in RSA
    2) What is spares availability like
    3) Could one do a decent engine swap - Cummins or something like that. Would the gearbox / diffs be able to handle the torque
    4) Believe you can get a modification where you can change the brakes to disc brakes
    5) Could one add diff lock to these axles - most of the videos' I've seen they seem to be short diff lock to make them awesome.
    6) What diff manufacturers were used
    6) Suspension, what's that like, any mods that can be done?

Be interesting to see what you guys come back with

Get hold of an old Army Tiffie, he'll tell you to run most probably...

A Bedford and a Unimog can never ever be mentioned in the same sentence. They are not comparable.
    Rather a Samil 20.
    Current - 2009 Mazda BT50 3.0CRDi 4x4 d/c
    Previous - 2005 Ranger 2.5 tdi 4x2 d/c (277 422km)

Don't do it. They suck fuel like a 747.
    Spares would be a nightmare..
Only good as a classic for short Sunday cruises.
They were phased out the army around the beginning of the 80's. Replaced by Samils that were far superior.
