One thing about a 70 series cruiser, its the only Toyota that looks just as good as a Defender on a dune in a sunset photo in the Kalahari...

Yes, in the dunes south of Swakopmund. It rolled down the dune and landed on it's roof.

Mine is 4 days away. Canít wait. Will be tested on its very first trip in Malawi as we have gotten a lot of rain and a lot more still to come.

If I get it stuck Iíll phone a guy with a duel diff lock Patrol to pull me out and never admit to it publicly.
A really funny story. There was a guy with a Patrol, think it was the 4.2 diesel, at Liwonde National Park same time as us.

He probably left half an hour after is for a drive through the park. It started raining. For anyone that knows Liwonde, itís a really bad place to be when itís wet. Especially towards the North Eastern side at the airfield. We made it back through the bad part of the park when it just started raining.

The guy with the Patrol unfortunately not. He got solidly stuck. The eventually got him out. For a fee of $200. If I knew he got stuck beforehand I wouldíve attempted to help, even if for just a photo to post on this thread.

A Landy pulled him out. We had a good laugh afterwards. If we were 15 minutes later, a Landy might have had to pull me out too.

Land is genuinely a good vehicle compared to the patrol, I mean I see Landys pulling out trucks and busses all the time, I doubt the patrol can do that

    Seriously?

When it comes to how much a vehicle can pull, there's no magic formula. The heavier vehicle with the most torque at the lowest wheel speed is going to win every time.

If you still struggle, just go look on Youtube.

LOL, so reading this, I did a little search, and find just as many Patrols pulling stuff around as any of the others..

As Peter said, it's all about gearing. I get out of my little TD27 leaving it spinning all four wheels dragging a car through the sand at snails pace without it stalling, where a LC was spinning, getting stuck and burning his clutch.

But this thread was about LC vs Patrol, and neither my Sani, or a Landy, or for that matter, any other vehicle should be part of this conversation. This thread has run it's course, and the OP is just trying to keep his thread alive by baiting guys into silly conversation.

David a guy that get a Land Cruiser stuck and burns his clutch must be a real novice.

You boast you do your recoveries on 1.8 tyres and super low crawler gears.
I have watched your videos. We're you are driving could not be a serious sand challenge as you can do it with tyres at 1.8 and using a low powered diesel vehicle.

I think that everyone here that does serious sand and dune driving will agree that it is all about power and low tyre pressures.
So far you are lucky conditions and sand texture changes but be careful not to get yourself into serious situation were you are on the receiving end.

Will there be a noticeable difference in fuel economy between a 4.5 EFI and the 4.8 Patrol?
