2020 has been a heck of a year that would most probably go down in the history books as the year that changed the world and impacted many people health wise and financially. Especially in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.
Therefore, this thread is not a brag rights opportunity but rather to share your plans for the festive season if you are fortunate to be in a position to go on a breakaway holiday.
I will hit the road on 27 December and the itinerary was planned to get as far away as possible from civilization and city life. My first stop (Over night) is Merweville, nicely situated in the middle of nowhere. 28 December I will hit the road for my final destination in the Northern Cape on a guest farm called Daberas where I will stay until 7 January 2021.
Exploring the Northen Cape area and visiting the Augrabies falls is on the bucket list. I also wat to get within viewing distance of my country of birth, Namibia. Maybe one day a trip to Namibia will eventually happen.
What are you plans for the festive season and/or do you have advice/tips for other Forumites and the places they intent visiting?
Please share![]()

I'll be doing the garden route, first the front garden and then the back garden.
Seriously staying at home (CT) for most of the time but need to go to PE to visit the old people for a few days in Janaury.

Hopefully, if everything goes well, I'll see my parents for the first time in about a year and a half.
Unfortunately a quick one, Christmas next day a cam belt change to save them some money and back home.
About 4 nights.
We have a permanent caravan at the Vaal Dam, under roof, kitchenette dining space etc. Will spend a couple of weeks there, the kids and grandkids will come down to join us. Boating and fishing for the little guys. Have bought my grandbuddies a dinghy and will fit a trolling motor, this will allow me to teach them how to safely boat, and should give them hours of fun.
December is the time to BOIL in Kgalagadi We leave on Sunday.

26th Kirkwood - SitrusOewer - Addo
29th Graaf-Reinet - overnight Day trip to Nieu-Betesda. Uil Huis

Planning some nice self drive trips in and around these places. 7 passes being one. Billabong factory for the kids and wife
Hope the covid stuff does not stuff up my stuff![]()
Jhb to visit the in-laws, maybe some hamburg before or after.
Me and wife staying at home COVID ..I have just been retrenched at 70 so we will go camping at Green Fountain Port Alfred in the new Summit Everest Mid Jan for 10 days ..You get your own Bathroom ..Then in Mid Feb to Mid March we have 1 month at Yellow Sands R 1700 for Pensioners and in May we go to a Farm in the Steytlerville area (1 camp site off grid ) for 10 days then 1 month in Aug/Sept ..Northern Kruger ..More to follow for later in year
My plan was to go up East towards Moz for 2 weeks, (mostly gravel) but due to new business we got, I need to set up a factory, so I will be moving and setting up our Factory in a new Building. Dammit(but new business always trumps a holiday in these times
)
Starting on the 15th, planning to be done by the 4th for Startup....
Carrying over 55+ Leave days to 2021, so I will be doing my Roadtrip in March/Aprill.
The aim this year is to get away from the city, malls etc and find solitude in the bush with minimal people interaction.
Depart Sunday 20th for Doorndraai Lodge - 4 nights at this magical venue, albeit there will be some people around, especially sharing the tiny pool. Power and cellphone reception as I still need to work. Working from home or a campsite, I know which one will suit me best
Depart Thursday 24th for Waterberg Wilderness Reserve (WWR) on one of their exclusive bush campsites with no neighbor in site. First time for us at WWR and really looking forward to 9 nights of bushveld joy.
MBT's will go along to do regular rides to offset the green bottel's effect.
Solar setup for caravan and bakkie should be sufficient to not let us down even if we have the odd cloudy day. WWR do not have power, thus need to cater for the 10 days. Also I believe no cellphone signal, yeah!
Bush holiday it will be and about 600Km on the blacktop. At WWR we will do regular game drives, some 4x4'ing, some picnic days at the dam, just relaxation and quality family time. Nyala's eating out your hand, away from the buzz of popular holiday destinations.
A mouth-watering menu and a time to perhaps experiment a bit with newly found recipes.
Be safe out there!
