It might be unfair to compare gholf players with cricket players for instance since gholfers can play until they die of old age but cricketers never reach 40. Or even worse, rugby.

So, who is the greatest, based on the time they have been at the top of their sport for the longest time, consistently in the top group and never being out of this group year in and year out. Not basing their greatness on the money they have won, because some sports are hugely overpaid as opposed to other sports.
Based on their competitiveness in their respective sport for the longest time.
Tiger is a contender, based on how long ago he won his first major, to when he won his last major, but there was a big gap when for a few years he never won much.
Ronnie o' Sullivan must surely be in the mix. Top 20 in the world, for his sport for 26 years.
Mercedes W123 300D, runs on Mother Natures Goodness.
Powered by the Sun, the Rain and the Earth.
Have now covered 270 000Km on veg oil.
Oh, and an Isuzu 280DT, 40 000Km on Bio Diesel
Rand for Rand gets 33Km/L

"That what I know, I do not remember" - Yakhe Kwinana 2020
In cricket Sachin Tendulkar ranks right up there and so does Jacques Kallis for being consistent threw out their entire careers and ending up at the top of their game.
In F1 there is only one, Michael Schumacher.
In rugby Bakkies Botha is a stand out for me, he performed at a top level threw his entire career. Fun fact, he is the only pro rugby player to win 3 Super Rugby championships as well as 3 European Rugby Championships.
Athletics Usain Bolt comes to mind.

It's in pubs where the world's greatest ideas begin.
Yuri Vardanyan. 41 world records in olympic lifting, did things at 82kg bodyweight that todays super heavyweight monsters still struggle to match.
Carl Lewis. 10 years unbeaten in long jump.
Edwin Moses unbeaten winning streak in the 800m
Eddie Mercx in cycling.
Men
For me Sugar Ray Leonard will always be on top of my list with Carl Lewis a close second.
