    Default Trans Botswana & Covid

Need advise please. The family needs to travel from Windhoek to Pta via Trans Bots, in at Buitepos out at Skilpad. Non stop.

    Valid Covid cert in place.

What issues may pop up in transit?

What is precisely the process at the border posts?

What is the operating hours of the posts over weekends?

    Huge thanks in advance!

Would also like to know what to expect at Bots border post.Going in wednesday coming out sunday all through Martinsdrift.Covid requirements.....does the 14 day grace Sadec rule apply in Bots?

Skilpad is open 24/7 under normal conditions...should apply as that is one of the designated posts for commercial purposes.

I learnt today that Buitepos / Charles Hill border is not open for tourism. Verify that on the NAM side.

Would also like to know if Bots is allowing transit travel, planning to drive through on Saturday. I thought they had opened up for general travel. is the only way to Nam via the southern borders?

    Hi K S,

How did you find out Buitepos is not open?

So then there is no way to use Trans Bots from Nam?

I can give an update of the info now.
NAM has officially opened the Buitepos and Mamuno border with document stamped on 01 Dec 2020.

The info however has only been spread today.
So, all GREEN for crossing at either of the two borders.

(Got the info via DriveNAM FB page)

I note that the permit is only valid for 5 days. If you are therefore travelling for longer (e.g. a 2 week Bots trip) then I assume you would have to apply every 4/5 days for a new one. It might be an issue if you do not have any Internet connectivity. Not sure how difficult it would be to obtain a Botswana SIM card for this.

Once applied, how quickly does the permit get issued - I presume it is within a few minutes?

hi, regarding this zonal map , we are visiting Mabua, Central Kalahari, Pan handle and Nxai Pans.
do we need to get permits - what permits and from who please? for every zone? This will be a nightmare....?

Yes I think so (see- https://covid19.gov.bw/). This issue is that the permit is only valid for 5 days. I've emailed them for clarity on this. We plan on going for over 2 weeks.

You need a permit every time you cross from one zone to the next.

The online permits gets approved within minutes. (Link in post #11 above)

For a local SIM (Orange, Mascom, BTC Mobile) you only need your passport to register (RICA equivalent).

Does anyone know if the Ramotswa border post is open? I'm travelling to Bots on Tuesday and prefer Ramotswa as it's usually quiet.

Good day. Is Botswana allowing transit im planning of going to Zimbabwe via Botswana if possible. And if you are in transit do you still need the inter zonal and how can one get it?

My inlaws are going to Botswana next weekend for two weeks. The question they have, is when they come back, do they need an original covid test result with a stamp (from Lancet in Francistown), or can they stay over at a lodge near a border post, receive the result vie email, print the results and then take that to the border? They would rather stay at a lodge on the Limpopo river that stay 48 hours in Francistown waiting for the results.

    Thanks

See if there is a http://diagnofirm.co.bw closer to where they want to stay over.

Drove through Bots and it was quite seamless actually. Just have your covid test ready and you are good to go.

Good to know, thank you! My BIL and I are doing that exercise tomorrow through to Nam. Did they do checks at all the inter zone points?
