FIA set to investigate flexible front wings: https://racingnews365.com/fia-set-to...es-front-wing/

"...The flexi-wing saga is set to take a new turn as the FIA are now believed to be in the process of reviewing the front wings found on the 2021 Formula 1 car.

RacingNews365.com has learnt that the FIA is investigating the horizontal elements found on the front wings in order to ascertain whether they bend beyond the prescribed limits, with the added flexibility said to provide teams with an added performance advantage, as highlighted recently by Red Bull executives Christian Horner and Helmut Marko.

"I think there is plenty of footage from this weekend as well," Horner told RacingNews365.com.

"We trust the FIA in this matter, you cannot treat the front wing differently from the rear wing. What applies to the rear wing, you would expect it to also apply to the front wing."

While a formal protest has not been lodged, the FIA has accessed onboard footage which shows the degrees of flex with the Mercedes W12 believed to be one of the cars in the spotlight...."
Fair is fair, if you want to complain about rear wing flex, front wing flex should also be in the spotlight.

Getting back to the race, Max was starting to pull away from Lewis before his second pitstop.

Red Bull must have felt that the pace wasn't sustainable and therefore pulled Max in to rather give him a better chance against the Mercs in the final part of the race. At that stage he still had the pace.

It couldn't just be that they were scared of a Spanish GP repeat, in Spain Checo wasn't lurking in fourth place to overtake the Mercs if they were to switch to a two stop race, while he was there in France. The fact that Checo is right up there is taking away a lot of flexibility with regards to strategy that Mercedes enjoyed over the past couple of seasons due to RB being a one man team during those seasons.

The fight is now properly and truly on, and long may it continue.

Lekker, let's hope next year's changes don't throw a massive spanner in the works.

The way I read it, Nico and Lewis never had a straight chassis swap, as happened here between Lewis and Valtteri. Nico got Lewis' chassis, and Lewis would then have gotten another chassis, maybe a new one or a test chassis that was eventually put into service as a racing chassis.

Yas Marina changing track layout to aid overtaking at F1 season finale: https://www.racefans.net/2021/06/21/...season-finale/

"...Turns four, five and six will be replaced with a single left-handed hairpin, leading drivers onto the first back straight. Later in the lap the current turns 11, 12, 13 and 14 will be replaced with a single, sweeping left-hand curve. This will also be slightly banked. ..."

That front wing is so large it could be an airplane. Going to interesting to see how they manage to get that on to stop flexing.
