It’s possible the filter in the steering reservoir is blocked causing the noise
|
Hi All,
I replaced my power steering pump on my freelander 2 yesterday. Pump is still a bit noisy. The mechanic said that the tensioner need replacement, hence the noise on the pump because of insufficient tension. It is currently on 144000km. Three things:
1. please recommend a good tensioner kit
2. Pls advise on the pump noise
3. Can anyone recommend a good indie mechanic.
Any help is most appreciated.
Thank you MikeBob. Will replace tomorrow and let you know.

The filter cannot be replace on it;s own, it is part of the reservoir, but not overly expensive.

Is the noise belt squeal, or cavitation from residual air in the oil?
If the oil in the reservoir is frothy (common after opening up the system for repairs) the noise will settle down once the air is out of the oil...
