From JHB to Cape Town - scenic route or suggestions (tar and gravel)

Hi there,

Need some advice on a scenic route or road less travelled from JHB to Cape Town , could be either tar or gravel.

Preference is not to drive all the way on the N1.
Maybe 2 stop overs per direction.

Possible route suggestions would be appreciated.

Suggestion:

Drive to Kimberley, then from there:
Douglas, Prieska, Copperton, Vanwyksvlei, Brandvlei, Loeriesfontein, and join the main road again at Niewoudville. The head off to Vredendal and from there follow the coastal road to Lambertsbay (arrange a stop over for the Muisbos), Elandsbaai, Dwarskersbos, etc.


An alternative is from Vanwyksvlei to rather head to Carnarvon, and then from there over Sutherland down South.
