Yes, we have done it a few times on our own, no issues. It forms part of the Namakwa Eco trail, so you are bound to see other travelers if something goes wrong. We always travel with a GPS with Tracks 4 Africa. The route is on T4A.

I drove the route a bit over a week ago.

No issues at all, although there was quite a bit of drift sand on the road North from Eksteenfontein to the t-junction (left Alex Bay, right Kuboes) as well as between the Sendelingsdrif turn off and Sanddrif.

    My trip report is upcoming.

It is not part of the Namaqua eco trail. You need a different permit for this. You can get the permit in Eksteenfontein. It costs R50 per person per day.

How adventurous and self sufficient are you?

Thereís more than one route you can take between those two places. they do require that you are confident and if youíre the cautious type, have a SAT phone for in case, as there is rarely traffic on them.

Both the ones I know are very scenic. Nothing radical, but each have a very short stretch where you may need low range. They will add about 3 hrs to the normal route.

I was there 2 weeks ago as backup to Honda Quest in a SWB Pajero.

If you do a search for my trip reports, both of them feature in those trails.
    Andrew to all.
