Amatikulu campsite
Hi guys,
Does anyone have any info on the status of Amatikulu campsite and reserve. Seems like from reading elsewhere on this site it is no longer managed as a reserve by Parks Board and is a mess

Have been enjoying Amatikulu for many years, being close by..
Unfortunately, the campsite has lapsed, and last couple years, there wasn't even a guard at the gate or office staffed.
Park is heavily grazed by local cattle..
Hopefully it will somehow be restored?
Paddle on the river still good, although these days we usually launch from The Hatchery, on the north bank, as day guests..
( This is a good overnighter, outside of park, but nice for paddling, and crossing over to the adjacent peninsular)

Mmmm, probably not - just a thought.
The view of the river moth from the platform (if it is still there) was great.

With close down of KZN Parksboard many of its facilities have fallen into ruin unfortunately.
I have spent many a awesome weekend in that tented camp. Imagine to bed at night with bushbabies in the background and waking up in the morning with loeries calling overhead and bushbuck and duiker wandering inbetween the elevated walkways.
The facilities were never 5 star but thats not what we went there for.
It was conveniently located close to us, didnt cost an arm and a leg and you could enjoy the splendour of nature, particularly at night time.
It is a sad turn of events.
