Default Is my Jurgens XT75's suspension shot?

I inherited this trailer, fully kitted.
The suspension does look severely sagged in comparison with the Jurgens website examples, doesn't it?
Mine is dry loaded in the picture. The 120l water tank and 2x jerrycans is empty. No food, no gas bottles. On the other side is an OzTent RV4.
2 spare tyres and the nosecone.
There are two stretchers, sleepingbags, cooking utensils, recovery tracks, a spade, 2nd battery and a folding chair or two inside, but surely wheels should not appear to be resting on the mudguards?
In hindsight, I should have noted the tyre size, it does look bigger than the website image tyres, doesn't it?

Should I have it checked out, this "dual swingarm suspension" Jurgens advertise?

Looks like bigger wheels. Have it checked out. Might have lost some clearance and can be a problem as it might press against the wheel arches when loaded and traveling.

The original tyre size on the Jurgens XT trailers is 245/75R15.

I'll go check the tyre size.
But suspect it might be tired.
Surprises me. This trailer was used on three very mild trips. Two in the south of Namibia, one through Botswana.

    Interesting design, this suspension.

I guess it's easy to overload that trailer. After all the payload is only 265 kg. With 120 litres of water, there isn't that much left. Might have damaged the suspension.

To be honest that is why the 75 is not a popular trailer. Big and heavy with little payload. It is the same size as the 120 which is braked and can therefore legally carry a lot more. It is very easy to overload the 75

I think a visit to the nearest weighbridge is in order.

I wonder if you replace the axle if you shouldn't fit the heavier duty unit of the 120

    You are speaking my mind.
In fact, I was considering having a run-in brake sytem installed, for peace of mind and safety.
I have a had a couple of close cals with unbraked trailers in the past.

I'd sell it and get a 120. Already licensed for more weight. And all your accessories will be transferrable.

That sounds like it makes the most sense. Everything else might just be like polishing a turd. Stronger axle and run-in brake system add to the empty weight, decreasing your payload even further.

Stronger axle and run-in brake will increase the carrying capacity significantly.
I need to do the cost vs. benefit calculation of upgrading the XT75 (which is also lighter and nimbler to tow) vs. trading it in for a XT120 or XT140 or similar.

Sure, if you don't intend to use it on public roads. Otherwise you would have to have the legal maximum weight increased, which is apparently quite a pain.

Indeed, I'd have the ratings increased too.

I stand corrected, but if a registered trailer builder installs the bigger axle brakes, then they can help with the re-registration of the trailer to a higher GVM.

    Exactly my thinking too.
Who ever will do the upgrade can then have the trailer recertified?

The total weight of the XT75 is 15 kg less than that of the XT120. I don't think you would be able to notice that while towing.

Did not even think to compare, thank you Hugo.
So they're identical, physically, the XT120 only has the better load carrying rating because of the axle and run-in brakes.

Yes they are identical except for the axle and brakes. So you can just transfer all your accessories.
