Default New Maxxis Razr AT 811 tyres - promising owner experience

New ATs, Look promising, 3 ply side wall, interesting Treads. In my neck of the woods 30% more expensive than the bravos and 30% cheaper than KO2s. Don’t look they will go more than 50k kms, but early reviews good in the wet.

Anyone know who stocks or provides these tyres in Western Cape other than Errols online.

    I fitted these tyres yesterday.

    I went this route for
1.) the brilliant reviews in Auz
2.) price point compared to that of BFG KO2s, and Cooper ST Maxx,
3.) previous experience with Maxxis Bighorns 764s,
    4.) sidewall lugs
5.) wanting an AT tyre that would give me a confidence level that it might be more puncture resistant that a mid priced tyre, or lower end tyre. I believe in having great tyres, and the best brakes I can get on my vehicle.

I obviously cannot comment too much on them right now, but I can feel they are heavier than my GY Wranglers, as expected, as they are about 24kg per tyre, similar to a Cooper ST Maxx, or Dunlop Grandtrek AT3G.

They balanced well with very little weight being used, and are extremely quiet, no noticeable noise at all. No difference to my GYs.

I will further findings as soon I can get out onto the loose stuff.

Thanks for posting, looking forward to your Experience especially the wet and offroad. I am about to pull the trigger currently on KO2s. On a side note I see them more of an RT tire and similar looking to the Nitto Ridge Grapplers RT.

Decided to take the plunge. I got LT spec which is 10ply
rated and load E range with a 3 ply sidewall.

My initial thoughts vs my K02 with 6mm left (Done 86k Kms)
    1) Ride much cushier than KO2
    2) Weight about the same, tread depth officially the same new.
    3) Maxxis seem to be bigger in height and width same size
4); Maxxis look Like an MT, very aggressive looking.
    5) Not sure if the Maxxis has a rim protector, but they way they sit suggest so.
    6) 30% cheaper than K02, if I get 70k Kms it would have been worth it.
    7) The 3 Ply sidewall feels as tough as the KO2.

The true test is wet performance and puncture resistance. My KO2 had 5 small nails and didn't even know when I changed them out.

    PS
not sure why pictures are rotated

the Razr line is premium range above the bravo and bighorns, Maxxis are squarely targeting BFG and in their pricing too, waiting to see if their quality matches and will report back here, but men they look good.

Very interesting post. I will be keeping an eye on this one. I want to upgrade my tyres too, and don't feel like going BFG either.

also didn’t feel like going back to BFG, also looked at nitto ridge grapplers. Forgot to mention tires very quiet, but it’s early days.

I just had some fitted on my Defender coming from Hankook Dynapro MTs that were on the car when I bought it. I was encouraged by the positive reviews and the slightly better prices compared to the BFGs. Very smooth feeling so far, but haven’t tried them off the tarmac yet. I reread the technical specs though and wonder wether there is any way to find out which sizes actually come with 3ply sidewalls?the advertising material only mentions “select sizes”.

If you would like to find out whether your tyres have got a 3 ply sidewall, check on the tyre, close to the rim usually, there is sort of in fine print the number of plies for sidewall and tread and what they are made of.Click image for larger version.

First 1000kms, Got to finally go offroad in rocky and muddy (black cotton soil) terrain in the rain. Gotta say the grip in the wet and mud is hands superior to the BFG KO2, they expel mud very well for an AT tire, my KO2s same track would be slicks for caked in mud. Another interesting observation on stock pressure the Maxxis run like my KO2 lowered down, super comfy.

very happy with the performance, the new Tech in the Razrs are not just marketing it does what it says it will do.

Thank you Bundutrailer. Can you give your impression of sidewall strength and/or sidewall flexing if you did some travel with deflated tires...

Very Good it's 3ply sidewall, My non scientific pinch test as firm as the KO2. When selecting did a similar test on the Dunlop At3G which is also 3ply but it was softer. Have not deflated yet for haven't needed to. Btw it's has a cushion rim protector head which gives it that comfy ride.. See technical video of features
