I had the mattrass for the side bed re-made by the Foam Factory in Centurion.

    https://www.foamfactory.co.za/

The foam is good quality and I am very happy with that. You have to supply your own fabric for the cover and they make the cover. The sewing workmanship was not too great.

If I had to do it again, I will rather ask BL to custom make me one.

MyFo Edenvale do really good work.
I have used them for a new TTT mattress and a couple other items.

Good advice and reasonable as well.

We had one made by Comet Caravans in Boksburg (not sure who they outsourced it to). Mattress was made to our specific size requirements (tapered not a square mattress)

    thanks for all the advice

I'm also looking for some suggestions on the mattress makeup. Most people seem to make up a multi-layer mattress with foam of various densities / hardness.

Any recommendations on "recipes" that work?

We had one made up locally in Pmb - 150mm high density foam with a 50mm layer of memory foam on top. It is extremely comfortable.

Well that is really personal preference. The new one I had made is thicker than the standard BL mattrass and it has a thick layer of very high density foam at the bottom and a thinner layer of less dense foam on top, IIRC about 6 cm.

At the foam factory they have samples of all the densities and you can touch and compress them. The quality of their foam is excellent. They did however advise me not to put a layer of memory foam on top. I am not a fan of memory foam at the best of times though.

Sorry not sure what went wrong with the quoting.

    Definitely!
Used the same combo and can attest to the great comfort level.

Hi Mike, who did you use in Pmb? I need to get a new mattress made up for the second bed in the Cougar as it is quite a bit thinner than the big bed.

    Thanks in advance, Jason

I have just ordered a no-turn pocket spring bamboo with the memory foam overlay, but they have many types that will suite just about everyone and made to size - DM Supplies in Primrose.

We just put a eggshell matress ontop of our Bushlapa mattress, like sleaping on a new Seally!

Multi layer foam is usually more comfortable. At the bottom a high density with a low density, memory-foam or eggshell on top. Ideally ask them to make samples of each combination and thicknesses, and feel it. And a 150mm mattress will be more comfortable then a 100mm or 75mm .

Got a quote from Bushlapa and a few prices from the suppliers mentioned in the post. Surprisingly Bushlapa is 30% cheaper than the next cheapest price.
