Default Rustenburg area - safe camping advice needed

    Greetings to all
We're in the process of planning a 6 week round trip of SA. Most of the campsites I've booked so far are in the smaller national parks or on farms (W Cape has plenty of the latter). We are doing our best to stay away from "resort type" camps unless we really have to.

On this leg of the trip we'll be travelling from Mokala and heading to Blouberg in Limpopo (both camps booked and paid for already), but need to break the trip in between somewhere.

Any suggestions for good, safe and secure campsites in the Rustenburg area? Ideally, I'd like to be able to book a specific site rather than make a choice on arrival as we will no doubt arrive late afternoon on a Saturday.
We would leave again on the Monday. For info, I contacted Pilansburg (not ideal, but it would be OK), but their response was full of ifs and buts and no guarantees that I'd rather give them a miss.

Honey Nest Resort (The resort part is not indicative of its character)
It is small, well maintained with really nice ablutions

Also a great choice - specifically the ATKV there. I have camped at Buffelspoort dam before, but that was many years ago (about 8). A lot more "rustic" than the ATKV resort, but was good enough for us then...

ATKV Buffelspoort one of the best sites I have camped at (although last time was also a good few years ago). Depends what you're looking for apart from just "safe". Buffelspoort very large campsite with lots of activities. Honey Nest very quiet, clean ablutions and very rustig.

Apologies, I just read your original post again. ATKV Buffelspoort definitely a "resort type" venue. Rather go to Honey Nest then..

Hodge Podge Backpackers will probably let you camp. But the huts are cheap enough.
