Default UPS - Where to sell

As per thread title. I have 2X Meissner 5KVA ( MP105 ) UPS's. They take up way to much space for my use. Where would one sell such items and what are they worth? Or would I be better off selling it off for scrap.

Meissner has a good reputation as quality brand.
The biggest cost is the batteries.
You'll have to declare how old it is and the general state of the rest of the unit.
I would advertise it on this forum, for starters.
    No idea on price.
The last I time procured UPS's was 10years ago and the smallest was 30kVA and cost around R150k.
A wild guess would be roughly R10k depending on age of the batteries.

They have both been standing for 6+ years. Yes I know.. I just never got around to connecting them. Batteries will be toast. And with 16 ( 45Ah ) of them per UPS that is a big ticket item.

Sell the batteries as scrap and then sell the UPS units without batteries. If they are that old then you can't really include the batteries in the price.

    I would also suggest this.
And to courier 30kg+ batteries to your potential buyer is pointless.

Unless of course you decide to replace the batteries.

I'd be keen on the flatteries for my off grid project? The cost of fetching them though......

    Not worth it, honestly.
No way of reviving a 6yo battery.

45 Ah lead acid batteries which have been standing for 6 years, dead as a doornail by now, that will be throwing good money after bad even if you get them for free and it's just the fuel cost to Bloem.

After 6+ years I'm afraid these are just good for paperweights or doorstops.

So this unit appears to take 2 banks of 7Ah batteries in parallel and has an input voltage of 224V. Not much use unless you want to buy 32 x 7Ah at circa R 220 a pop.

    Damn I was so keen.

These were run with 16X Deltec 46B24L batteries though.

I just replaced an 24v APC UPS that used 4 x 7ah batteries with 8 x 6amp lithium batteries and a small BMS.

Something to consider, swapping to lithiums instead of lead acid, for the conversion was cheaper then 4 x 7ah batts at R220 a pop.

    Used these cells: https://lithiumbatteriessa.co.za/col...e-battery-call

But if that UPS needs 224v DC volts ... then one is buggered.

    Political Correctness
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional illogical minority, rabidly promoted by a unscrupulous mainstream media which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd ... by the clean end!

Saw this in a pub - no idea why the wife does not see it so:

We were in the same predicament, needed to buy batteries for a large 480v UPS, in the end we went the Mecer inverter route, inverter with 8 batteries were less than replacing the unit, and at the time about R10k more that just replacing batteries.

Thats is what I thought too.
Lithium or even deep cycles, very nice battery pack for off grid, albeit big and bulky.
But be warned. They do prefer cooled computer room environments.

As the banks are run in parallel you can drop one bank.

Just be aware that a UPS is not an Off-Grid Inverter Power System.

The MP105 was however probably one of the finest UPS's available in that class. I have one working for nearly 30 years now. Been repaired by PSS a few times.

Unfortunately I think those units are now worth their weight in copper.
