    Default Camping around Clarens??

Any worthwhile nice camping spots near Clarens, more to the Golden Gate area??

Is Glen Reenen still under construction??

Or do I just go to the tried and tested Lesoba or Uithoek again??

The boys have some offroad race happening at Kiara Lodge (near Bokpoort) this weekend, and I'm thinking just as well make a lekker trip out of it.

We'll be taking the old Caravantjie and Oztents, my wife and girls are coming with, so somewhere with a nice ablution etc etc please.

    THANKS

Jy weet mos - mens ken nie jou eie plekke in jou area nie

Bel bietjie Golden Gate .

Petri: Probeer Bergwoning reg agter Kiara.

Petri.

They're still building at Glen Reenen. The campsite is still functional though.

Meiringskloof at Fouriesberg is lekker, if a bit further.

There's also the Old Drift place which looks very nice, but I've never actually been.

How much do you need in the way of facilities? If you're happy to wild camp I know a couple of spots

I am not a Clarence local , but I am amazed at the suggestions , Petri lives in Bethlehem, and he want to camp close to Kiara as his sons has a off-road race there. Some suggest places in Fouriesburg , this is near 50 ks from Kiara, he mite as well stay at home as Bethelem is 50 ks from Clarence .
Petri I would think Glen Reenen your best option or Bergwoning . Bokpoort has a camp site but not sure about the ablutions, AND a dirt road all the way , forecast for the weekend is rain .

I'd like to see the offroad race that attracts less than 100 riders. If there are more, it is illegal.

Die Ark,just outside Clarence on the Goldengate road. Four seperate campsites with a large roof and private ablutions.
Costly at about R800.00 per night.
Old Mill is scruffy and has seen better days...drive on elsewhere...

We're actually a couple guys who wants to tackle some 4x4 stuff in that area, and the laaities just wants to tag along on their offroads.

About 6 cars or so, and about 6 bikes.

Petri I can realy recommend Bergwoning campsite.

Have camped there a few times and just love the place. Lush green lawns under giant Ouhout trees next to a dam, inside a beautiful kloof comming out of the high Malutis. Definitely one of my most favourite campsites in the country.

Only 6 stands so nice and peaceful, and as close to Golden Gate NP as you can get.

The dam use to have some fish for catch and release but they died when the dam dried up during the last few years of severe drought. Do not know if Thys has restocked it yet.

I think this campsite will be at its most beautiful at the moment.

Yes, Thys Maritz is in Charge there. You can book in at "Die Rooi Bus" padstal at the entrance to Kiara Lodge.

Thanks Viertrek for the recommendation for Bergwoning campsite.
It looks great and we are always looking for new places to go to.
However there are some Tripadvisor reports stating that the ablutions are terrible (these reports were from 2015)
Have the ablutions since been upgraded?

We were there around 2015 and I can understand why someone on TripAdvisor can rate the ablutions as terrible: Rough stone walls, no tiles, gaps between roof and wall (read spider webs). And you have to climb a small incline to get to the loo. For us it was perfect.

Exactly as LouisF describes it and still the same as when I was there last year. Basic but functional. It was not bad for me at all.

But everything was working as it should and plenty of hot water.

Thanks so far for all Inputs Guys, appreciate it.

We're now thinking of making it a Boys Only Day, leaving early Saturday morning, I'll ask Thys if we can have a braai at his place (Bergwoning) for a quick brekkie before tackling some 4x4 goodies, then we'll decide where to from there that afternoon - go back home or then stay at Thys' place.

Will post some updated pics if you want, of the campsite, Rooi Bus Padstal, 4x4 route, etc etc.

If I am not mistaken, you can camp at Bokpoort.

Camped there a few years back on a adventure motorcycle bash, place was actually nice.
Everyday may not be good but there is something good in every day
