Default Moisture resistant MDF (MR MDF) board suppliers?

    Hi all,

Anyone know of anyone that supplies moisture resistant MDF boards (MR MDF) (Supawood) in the Gauteng area?
I have tried a number of board suppliers, but none of them have the MR type (which is slightly green in colour). All of them only supply standard MDF.

    Looking for 12mm thickness.

    Thanks! Morne

Not really going to help but I'd rather consider marine ply.

What about that synthetic plywood stuff? Can't remember what it's called? The stuff VW use for the flooring of their panel vans.

Apparently more waterproof than mild steel?

Actually, now that I think of it, I'd like a sheet of that myself, if I can find a supplier (and if I can afford it )

Don't know what you are planning to use it for but consider this.
Someone wrote about it a few months ago apropos a drawer system.
Finally tracked it down and it looks like a nice material to build drawers out of.
    Very light as well

How rigid is that stuff? Stiff like plywood or not? I was under the impression that it was pretty flexible?

Very rigid The sample I got could not be bent.
Leroy Merlin sell a PVC board but the inside is very foamy and it can be bent.
This stuff has a very rigid inside. FWIW I put a screw into the core from the side and was not able to dislodge it although I'm sure with enough force that is possible

In my search for a supplier of MR MDF, I also came across die product called PVC Foamboard at Davidsons Boards.
I have never seen or really heard about it before until now. I have no idea though if it has similar characteristics as MDF in terms of rigidity. I also have not had a first hand look at the actual product.

The reason why I was looking at MR MDF in stead of marine ply, is because of the finish that I want to achieve after painting, etc. I think MDF will require much less finishing after cutting, etc.

A week or so back I was actually considering the PVC Foamboard, but I have to be honest I have no idea what to use in terms of adhesives, and if it will hold screws. Obviously wood glue won't work with that...

Price of the PVC was more or less on par with a sheet of marine ply.

I went to the little falls branch today and they had a few sheets of 15mm MRMDF in the yard, the same ones listed on their website. They also had some 'planks'.
I am also looking for some, 19mm and 6mm for painted cabinet doors. I see Leroy Merlin has valchromat MDF, I looked it up and it's a coloured moisture resistant MDF from the looks of it, costs a lot more than the MRMDF though.
Not sure what your project requirements are, but I'm keen to make cabinet faces that will not develop paint cracks, and that will not puff up if they get wet.

Thanks - When I phoned, they said that they did not have stock. It seems like MR MDF is not in high demand locally...

    Unfortunately I need 12mm.

Back to the PVC Foamboard option - Has anyone had any experience working with these boards? Is it possible to use router on these for round over, grooves, etc?
