    Why the insistence for MDF?

Birch ply comes in 12mm and is water resistant.

The main reason really is because of the smooth gloss paint finish I hope to achieve on it. I donít have much experience painting plywood, but I would think that it would require much more prep work to get a very smooth paint surface as with MDF.

Also it needs to be at least somewhat moisture resistant. Therefore Iím looking to find MR. I know it will not be waterproof, but as I understand the greenish MR variant should handle moisture at least better than standard MDF (but probably not as good as marine ply)...

But so far no luck locating a supplier of 12mm.

From what I have seen, marine ply comes with a layer of what looks like MDF on the surface, so that might work?

For my application I want stable material for the styles and rails of cupboard doors in a bathroom, else fine cracks appear on the paint

Sorry to hijack the thread. I have experience the last couple of times I went to Leroy Merlin. Every time they are out of stock of what ever you need. They you get a mail to rate them. Gave them a crappy rating and they phoned and said that they will get stock and let me know. This was looong after the project I was doing was done and dusted.

I've reported elsewhere on this, but yes, used two sheets as ceiling boards. Comes in 2500 x 1220mm sheets. Not the usual 2440 board length.

Maizey sells it as M-board in 9, 12 and 16mm thicknesses. I used the 12mm.

Suspended almost horizontally along the two long edges with battens at the ends, it is self-supporting, i.e. does not hang a "boep" down the middle.

It has a gloss finish both surfaces, with one side having a peel-off plastic protective film.

Easily workable with a circular saw and router should also work. Used in the manufacturing of kitchen cupboards these days. If ever I replace the cupboards under the kitchen sinks, this will be it.

Here is an image of what the texture looks like after cutting with a decently sharp Freud blade.
