    Default My new old Hilux

So after a bit of a search I finally found it, I thought it best to trailer it the 600km home as you can never really trust internet deals, but I was actually pleasantly surprised at the condition it was in.

Plans are as follows: replace the steering drag links tie rod ends and the J arm, replace wheel bearings as well as find a 4x4 sump as the import 4y in it has the wrong one.

Future plans include replacing the wheel bearings and going thru the spare gearbox that it came with and building a nice frame type canvas canopy and touching up some paint as well as spraying the engine bay the same color.

I can't stop smiling when driving it around.

Did some Friday loving to the Lux today, fixed the wiper motor (one gear shaft slipped out the back), cleaned 1/2 a tree out the fan blower motor, replaced the brake pads, the J-link (or S-link) , drag link as well as the missing steering damper today. Sorted wheel alignment and found a 4x4 sump for it, hopefully collecting tomorrow.

Unfortunantly the to do list is growing, perhaps I'm just used to newer 4x4's?

Not much that can go wrong on a SFA Hilux. Enjoy.

Spaarwiel, when you replaced the steering knuckle arm(S-link ?) and the drag link, did you use genuine parts?
I phoned Toyota a while ago and they asked R4600 for the steering knuckle arm alone?
Didnt ask price for drag link. Just bought a kit from N1.

I think that if your vehicle stays on the road, then its better to buy the genuine and very expensive Toy parts.

Next is tyres, I bought it with 30x9.5's these are temporary 31x10.5, I can't make up my mind what size is better? It's a '92 Raider so I believe had bigger tyres as factory fitted.

No noticable change in performance or anything but I'd prefer to keep the Std rims but they 6jj and I think a bit narrow for the 10.5's ?

I pushed the limit and squeezed 260km on a tank of juice almost same consumption as my 4.0 Prado ---6.5km/L

Got rid of the noisy mud tyres and fitted 31x10.5 KO2's, overhauled the carb and replaced the pipe to the aircleaner.
Running very nicely now, hope to see better per tank mileage.

I used to get about 650km on a tank.
