The days of V8 motors are numbered, so it will be interesting to see what Toyota comes up with in the 300.
Ya I put a could and maybe in there. It felt wrong typing it.

I am interested in what will be coming in the 70 series. Will it be a de-tuned V6?
Am sure we won't be running out of V8's any time soon though.

the 70 should retain the v8 d4d. (In fact in some markets I also expect the 300 to carry over the v8 d4d for a while)

The 70 will retain the current V8 for the time beeing , But I doubt if the V8 will be offered in the 300 , apparently it is designed to accommodate the v6 only.

Just for the sake of interest: The article the OP refers to is Australian. See how they (Australian car journalists et al), in this case Mr Andrew Chesterton, persist in writing Land Cruiser with one word, even though he capitalizes the C with an uppercase: LandCruiser. It must come from the name decal on the vehicles itself, showing the two words quite close. But since when do you write a capital letter in the middle of a word (or is it journalistic freedom, or branding)? Even Toyota themselves spell it two words in their brochures.

I have a hunch that even the capacity of 3.3l is wrong in the article.

Ja I first thought that as well, 3.3 is just a very odd number, rather 3.2 or 3.6, something like that, I doubt they'll go under 3l.

In this article they also talk about smaller engines and ditching the V8, but the possibility of a hybrid as well.

I also saw a article somewhere which mentioned the 3.5 twin turbo V6 currently used in the Lexus LS as being a possibility. If they do a Hybrid option, I don't see that one making it to the African market, even the Germans only bring their hybrid options to SA at a later stage if at all, and that is in cars and softer SUV's.

    True.
And that's why I suspect that for African market especially work horse type bulk buyers like UN and governments, the 4.5 V8 may soldier on in the new 300.. at least for few more years.

I think they'll launch the 300 with a new motor, if they keep with the 4.5 V8 then they'll have to change to a new motor somewhere mid cycle and I doubt they'll do that. The alternative will be to continue on with the 4.5 V8 for the life of the 300, that will be 10 plus years which greenies definitely won't allow to happen.

It will come for sure, RAV Hybrid coming soon and the Corolla Cross will be the first Hybrid produced in SA, coming next year - the 300 will come with the 3.3 V6 and the 3.5 twin turbo Hybrid.

The Hybrid Rav4 and Hybrid Corolla launch for SA has been delayed till early 2021 due to the "current exchange rate pressures"!
