    From the linked article

"As from 01 September 2020, Namibia re-opens the Hosea International Airport to international tourists. This is a targeted initiative for leisure travelers and will be reviewed bi-weekly and amend as necessary."

    and so on.

It refers to the Namibia tourism website, also linked, but at Namibia tourism, the updates of the regulations seem to be lagging behind.

Does anyone have a proper link to the most recent and ***gazetted*** Namibian regulations?

In any event, Vioolsdrif/Noordoewer is still closed for tourism.

As far as good-will is concerned i'ts a good initiative.
However the practicalities are less than favourable for the visitors.

Considering the average duration of a typical European tourist (2-3 weeks) and the target to see the country as a whole, the 7 days quarantine should put most of them off for wasting their time.
I doubt very much that government approved quarantine locations will include Etosha or Sossus Vlei, not even Swakop.
They would be holed up at some place in Windhoek with nothing to do but watching advertising on TV.

Looks like some flights will start soon.

Results from test done by the Authorities takes up to 5 days, so you are 7+5 days in quarantine.

Quite a disappointment that one can visit Kgalaghadi but not camp on the Botswana side. One would have thought that as long as one enters and exits at Tweerivieren and does not exit at either the Namibian or Botswana gates that this would be allowed. I verified this to be correct earlier today with Sanparks.

    OK, just some context:

    1. Upon arrival at the Hosea Kutako International Airport, the tourists proceed to the pre-booked destination and engage in the planned daily tourist activities at the facility for the number of days the tourist is staying there.

    1. If the tourist intends to spend less than five days at the pre-booked facility, the tourist can proceed to the next destination. However, on day five (5), the tourist must be available for swabbing wherever they find themselves.

    1. The tourist must be reachable on day seven (7) to receive the results of the swabbing.

    1. If the result is negative, the tourist is released from any surveillance. If the result is positive, the tourist will be taken to the isolation facilities identified by the Ministry of Health and Social Services and treated at their own cost and according to national case management guidelines.

    2. You can do all planned activities at destination, as long as you remain contactable
    3. After tested, you can travel to next destination as long as you remain contactable
    4. If tested positive, you must be quarantined.

NB: above typed from memory, so days might be wrong, but it is no longer 7 days. Will find regs and publish it
    See attached.

Problem is yes if you are tested positive. Other problem is how does the test get done?

It is at least a step in the right direction, but still too many questions.

Also for overseas visitors we are still off the books as we are still on the high risk list, so most of them have to do a 14 day quarantine when they return home.

Just curious. I've passed through Namibia quite frequently on the way to or back from places. For example: a year or two ago, I headed back from the North West ZA coast, overnighted in Oranjemund and clocked back out to ZA at Rietfontein the next day. Likewise, I'm considering a trip to the Northern Cape again shortly. The original idea was to head there or return via Nam. The lockdown has changed a bunch of plans, and the lack of lockdown might change them again.

Anyways, without derailing this thread too much.

Tansit travel. ie: Clock in via road at border X and out at border Y on the same day. Is it allowed ?

Edit: Yes - I know that ZA borders must also be open.

From what I understand you have to stay at 1st destination for 7 days. You will have to stay at border y for 7 days before proceeding.

So is there any further detail on this from our honourable leaders?

My mother-in-law wants to come and visit from SA from 1 Oct to 4 Oct, so the way I have it is that she needs to get a COVID test while here so that she can re-enter SA, but that Namibia does not require that if she is staying for less that 5 days?

Thanks Walter - so my understanding is correct that she can just fly up to Nam, stay with us for those couple of days, get tested while here in Nam and then fly back without having to go into quarantine (unless she tests positive of course)

Except that nobody is operating flights direct. Right now, she'd need to go via Addis Ababa on Ethiopian... Not exactly direct.

Air Namibia may resume at some point. SAA and COMAIR (BA) are not operating.

So the state of emergency has been lifted it seems
Heard from my family there that some regulations will remain and will be reviewed in 14 days or something to that extend

I would not rush to start ravelling, yes we have been home bound for along time but the reality is Covid-19 isnt over, just because borders are opening up doesnt mean that you re now safe against the virus, it is still very real.

Also, Covid is no reason to not travel. Life is short, something will kill you. Might as well enjoy life

Just a question - will it be more dangerous to travel to a country with the same infection rate, than it will be to go to the local packed and overcrowded mall or shop? If you observe the same precautions as you did at home in SA, you should be fine.
